DEFINITIONS
Motor Vehicle-Every vehicle which is self-propelled and every vehicle which is propelled by electric
power obtained from overhead trolley wires, but not operated upon rails.
Trafficway-The space within property lines or other boundary lines of any way open to the public
as a matter of right or custom for moving persons or property from one place to another.
Accident-An unintended event or unstabilized situation that produces injury or damage (harmful
event) not directly resulting from a cataclysm.
In Transport-Denotes the state or condition of a motor vehicle which is in motion or within the portion
of a way ordinarily used for travel by similar vehicles. When applied to motor vehicles, in transport
means in motion or on a roadway.
Motor Vehicle Accident-An accident involving a motor vehicle in transport, but not involving aircraft
or watercraft.
Motor Vehicle Traffic Accident-Any motor vehicle accident that occurs on a trafficway or that occurs
after the motor vehicle runs off the roadway but before events are stabilized.
Urban Accident-A motor vehicle accident that occurs at a location within the limits of a city having
5,000 or more population.
Rural Accident-A motor vehicle accident that cannot be classified as an urban accident.
