States Congress to prohibit the manufact-
ure, importation, transfer or posession
of military assault type weapons.
7). The NSSAR reaffirms its 1986 Resolut-
ion supporting SDI and it's 1989 Resolut-
ion supporting Brilliant Pebbles and
urges the President and Congress of the
United States to restore funding to the
SDI-BMD program to meet the original ob-
jectives of the SDI program.
8). That, as individuals, we contact our
Congressmen, the Surgeon General, and
alert them to the dangers of IRON OVER-
LOAD and insist that they increase pub-
lic awareness of this disease and urge
massive screenings to save countless Am-
erican lives, and have our families
tested for this genetic disease.
9). I won't attempt to display all the
points of this resolution, but it basi-
cally thanks the Louisiana Society for
sponsoring the 104th Conference and
thanks various individuals for their
participation in the festivities.
Our memorial service was held on Sun-
day in the St. Louis Cathedral at Jack-
son Square in the French Quarter of New
Orleans. Those Compatriots who died
this past year, were remembered to the
Compatriots present at the service. On
Sunday evening, Michael Bowling of Okla-
homa, won first place ($1,000.00) in the
Joseph S. Rumbaugh contest. John Patri-
ck Fenner, Eagle Scout from Pennsylvania
won the Eagle Scout Scholarship ($5,000.
00) with his essay on "Our Flag". Con-
testants from California, Florida and
Michigan received checks for $500.00
for their winning essays in the Calvin
Coolidge Essay Contest for University
students. At the Candidates reception
and recognition night, our very own Bill
Hightower received the Minuteman award.
The following Texas Compatriots received
the Liberty Medal Award: Thomas M. Green;
Carl V. Hill, Jr., Thomas F. Breshnehen,
Jr., Delbert M. Fowler, Samuel S. Griff-
in, Joe M. Hill, Jr. (2) & Gerald L. Wik-
le. The last banquet was held Wednesday
evening at which new national officers
wer installed.IN MEMORY
Wilbur (Will) S. Strong, Vice Pres-
ident for Expansion for the TXSSAR OW
thomlpassed away at his home in Rich-
ardson on 6 July 1994. He was 49 years
old. Will made many contributions to
the TXSSAR organization. He directed
the Eagle Scout program as well as the
program to establish all new Chapters
throughout the state. Will was enthu-
siastic, warm and always encouraging
and stimulating. He was remarkably
bright and articulate. Will had the
knack of being able to sum up a situ-
ation or observation concisely with
well chosen words. He was gentle and
full of good humor. We will all miss
this Compatriot's friendship.
He is survived by his lovely wife,
Ann. Will's funeral and burial took
place in Crockett, Tx. on Sunday 10
July 1994. He was buried in his
Revolutionary War uniform in his
family plot. Many of our Compatriots
were present for the funeral,
