ADMINISTER FUNDS FOR
eoldiers who died abroad in rhe ser-
vice of their country . Of these, 31,-
400 are in France and Belgium, 140
in Scotland, 40 in Ireland and one
srilor is buried in Spain. Although
she government of the United States
has established cemeteries for its
soldier dead, the Legion feels that
it would be a fitting tribute co
(these heroes for representatives
f.tom among, their former comrades
at arms to visit 'the graves on Me-
morial Day each year. It is to this
purpose that the income from the en-
dowment fund will be dedicated.
The national treasurer of the
American Legion, Robert t H: Tryn-
dall, will be the immediate recipient
of the donations. It is hoped that
the^ fund will be completed in time

fund of $100,000 to be raised by the

Hoiior Mrs. Burdett
A most enjoyable event of the
past week was on Thursday after-
noon when Mesdames E. B Witmer
and H. T. Stotler entertained, hon-
oring Mrs. Grafton Burdette, sister
of Mrs. Stotler, of Detroit, Mich. The
coming of Mrs. Burdette is a joy to
her many friends as was evidenced
by the congenial group that gatah-
ered at the Stotler home on Texas
Avenue between the hours of 3:30
and 5:30 to welcome her return after
an absence of two years.
The guests were greeted at the
door by Mrs. Stotler, and presented
by Mrs. Witmer to the honor guest,
Mrs. Grafton Burdette, and her lit-
tle daughter, Betty Jeannie.
The presence of spring was evi-
denced in the use of lovely roses,
daisies and violets placed in vases,
baskets and bowls in the living and
dining rooms.
During the afternoon vocal duets
were rendered by Mrs. Harry Rouse
and Miss Annis Jones, with Mrs.
W. F. Powell as the accompanist.
The main diversion was a “stitch
contest” that was taken part in my ,
all those present. Mrs. J. F. Mason ]
received a prize for being the most ]
familiar with stitches, while the
guest was presented with a beauti- ]
ful hand made linen handkerchief.
