Think On These Things
By ESTHER Hl.ACK KING
In the spring everything is new Just look around, there’s new life
everywhere. In the great outdoors we see the early flowers, the budding
of bushes and trees, the bright green grass springing up through the
brown dead refuse of winter. The birds are singing, the sun is shining
again after the rain, and the whole world seems alive with promise
What is there about spring that effects us so? The wonder of walking
through a field of new clover, or driving down the highway and seeing the
wild flowers waving in the wind. In Texas, it’s bluebonnets, Indian paint
brushes, pink primroses, yellow ladies' slippers, field daisies and violets,
etc. But we don’t fully realize what it is that stirs our souls to such joyous
jubiliation until we view the bed of Easter lilies in all their regal beauty
and then the words of the scripture comes to mind: “Consider the lilies of
the fields, they toil not — neither do they spin — yet Solomon in all of his
glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
It is then that we become aware of the fact that all this visible newness
of life has meaning We remember the first human-fruit of the earth who
rose to new life and said that because He lives, we shall live also; because
He has risen, we shall likewise rise to a new life. With this understanding,
spring becomes more than lovely fragrant flowers in a beautiful world. It
is an annual reminder of the eternal hope of man to be with God, and that
God has not forgotten him. Just look around at the physical evidence!
We awaken from a deep night’s sleep every morning to a new earthly
day in which we have free choice to do as we wish with the daylight hours.
We may choose to work, or not to work; to live an exemplary life, or one
of sin and degradation.
The time will come (as surely as time will come for the birth of an un-
born baby) when we, each and everyone of us, will awaken from sleep to
greet an eternal day — or eternal darkness. There will be no need of sun
where God is because He is the light. The Prince of Darkness is separated
from God, so he, and his followers, shall dwell in utter darkness and
dispair.
Behold! He stands at the door and knocks. Today is the day of salva-
tion! But time IS limited because God said, “My spirit shall not always
strive with man.” Seek Him while He may yet be found!
