Shortly after dark on
Tuesday, Jan 25, the
Throckmorton Volun-
tary Fire Department
answered a call in the
northeast section of the
city. A storage shed in
the back of a house said
to be owned by Lola Th-
ompson was totally en-
gulfed in flames by the
time the firemen arr-
ived. The structure was
made of wood and being
dry created rapid burn-
ing. An estimate of da-
mage costs could not
be made nor a cause of
the fire determined.

Decline in Grain Exp-
orts — Reduced grain
exports from Texas
ports are costing the
state’s grain industry
millions of dollars. Gr-
ain sorghum exports ex-
ports during the last
3 months of 1971 were
down more than 30 mil-
lion bushels from the
same 1970 period. This
reduced revenue by $19
million. Hard winter
wheat exports were off
16 million bushels dur-
ing the last six months
resulting in a loss of
more than $25 million.
Factors causing this de-
cline include large wo-
rld supplies of grain,
price competition with
grains from other coun-
tries, and dock strikes.

Pruning Damaged
Plants —Delay pruning
freeze damaged plants
until new growth starts.
New growth will pin-
point the dividing line
between live and dama-
ged tissue so you can tell
where to cut without re-
moving too much wood.
Freeze damaged plants
should receive special
care this spring, such
as proper watering and
fertilization.
