—Our line of groceries, both
fancy and staple, are more com-

—Joe Moms, an employe at
F. Sokol’s blacksmith shop, bad
bis right band badly cut with a
sweep Tuesday morning. The
wound was on the back of the
hand and will incapacitate tbe
boy for work for some time.
—The public school this week
was tbe recipient of u handsome,
complete und up-to-date cyclo-
paedia, the gift of Mr. Frieucb
Simpson. The cyclopaedia is
something the school very much
needed as the one it lias been
using is too smull for advanced
work. This adds considerably
to the new library move insti-
tuted by the teachers and pupils.
—Prof. Frank Ilucek, principal
of the komensky school, writes
the Herald that there will be a
basket supper and game party
at tbe komensky school ou
Palm Sunday, March 24th, for
the benefit oi the school library.
Everybody is cordially invited
to come and the ladies are re-‘
quested to come and bring a
basket.
—The Herald was told recent-
ly that Will Woytek of Sublime
is making a fat thing off of
radishes this winter and spring.
He has been shipping steadily to
Kansas City, St. Louis and
other northern markets, and
rumor has it that he cleared
$350 from one acre of radishes.
This is not authentic, but the
Herald knows that Mr. Woyek
has made good money out * of
truck. He is a man who farms
with brain us well as brawn.
—The rural mail carriers of La-
vaca and l>e Witt counties held
a meeting Sunday^ morning in
Yoakum. CarriersW. H. Turk,
Ed Bucbanek, Paul F. Brier,
Joe Howerton and Hugh Lay of
this city, were in attendance.
Tbe State Association meets in
September and John Lockmau
of Shiner and G. H. Woodrome
of Yoakum were elected dele-
gates, and A. V. Dullye of Yoa-
kum and Ed Bucbanek of Hal-
letsville, alternates, to same.
—Sheriff A. B. Noble and Coun-
ty Attorney Will Bagby were
called to Yoakum Saturday af-
ternoon to investigate a shoot-
ing scrape that had occurred
there the night previous. Night
Watchman George Bellamy had
arrested a boy for riding trains,
and while on the way to tbe
calaboose with his prisoner was
shot at from behind, the bullet
striking him a glancing blow on
tbe bead, knocking him down
and inflicting a painful wound.
Mr. Bellamy released hie prison-
er and tried to catch tbe would-
be assassin, but failed though he
