“Uncle Bill" Hittson was a
caller at the Index office today
for the first time and was sur-
prised a; the sise of the Index
plant. Few people realise that
the Index is turning out a -clast
of job printing that will compare
favorably with a city of fifty
thousand inhabitants. Why not?
We employ the beet workmen,
have the Latest faces of type,
have our rollers made by a Chi-
cago expert and buy the beet
quality of paper. The mer-
chants of Mineral Welle oan get
any kind of printing at this office.
J T Harris will make the race
for assessor and oolleotor of
Mineral Wells, and hia an-
nouncement appears in this Issue
of the Index. Mr Harris is one
of the beet known men of this
oity and needs no apology for
contesting for the office as hie
record ie of the beet. Always
publio spirited and in the front
rank of those working for the
publio good of Mineral Wells.
Mr Harris will make a strong
pUll for the plaoe and if elected
everybody will have confidence
in bis management of the office.
Te the Voters of the City:
Believing that it is the desire
of many of those who are inter-
ested in the welfare of the oity
that I run for mayor, I have de-
termined to make the race. I
am for Mineral Wells first, last,
and all the time; and I realize
that in view of the financial con
dition of the city, it ie rather a
serious undertaking to make
promises. In my first race 1
promised to build the school
building. In this raoe the two
important things to this oity is a
water supply, good streets and
sidewalks. These two things 1
pledge myself to bend all my
energies to do—I believe I can do
it. The eanitory condition ol the
can be kept in good condition oity
with a good sanitorv and you
have that. I wilt enforoe these
eanitory regulations to the letter
of the law.
If in your judgment you be-
lieve I can advance the interests
of this I respectfully ask your
support. At the proper time I
will disousa these matters and
oheerfullv give my views. I
pledge myself to do all in my
power to the upbuilding of Min
eral Wells. Respectfully,
F. C. Hiohsmith.

LIBERTY HILL.
Since the last issue of this
paper the year 1902 hae been
numbered with the past. As we
listened to the ohuroh bells Sadly
ringing the knell of the depart*
ing year, did we think with
pleasure or regret of how we had
passed the time?
Did we.apend the year in idle-
ness or in work? How sad when
the day is over, if we think with
regret, that today I have accom-
plished nothing; I have been of
benefit to no one.
Sad indeed it would be to re-
view a whole year of our life and
feel that the tiine and oppor-
tunities were lost and that idle-
ness, the nursery of vain and
sinful thoughts, whioh corrupt
the mind and disorder life, has
oooupied the greater part of our
time.
We trust that every one oan
think of some good ha or she has
done, some deed of kindliest to
others wrought.
And as we are now entering
upon another year, let ut strive
to spend it well; let ue try to
prepare ourselves for the work
that in the future awaits us.
So.that ere the bells toll the
knell of another dying year, we
oen say thia year I have been of
some use to the world.

Mineral Wells about four years ago for re-

grow worse, and I was advised to go to
Mineral Wells. 1 realised it was my last

to say it cured me sound and well. I have
been gone from there two years and I can
honestly say I am in better health than 1
ever was in my life, and have no symptoms
