Alda Arthur dropped in to see us
and told us about her life long
friend who is carrying the
Olympic torch.
Great grandmother Viola Crook,
84 years old, was selected as one
of — Beaumont, Texas’s
“Community Heroes” to carry the
torch.
The mothers of Viola and Alda
were good friends and the girls
grew up together in Grayson
County. They have been close to
each other, writing and calling
often.
Viola heard about the contest in
Beaumont to select runners and
she filled a large vase with pebbles
until it weighed about 3 Vi pounds.
She then held it in one hand above

EXmng the period of Jnuary 13
to February 29, ten cross breed
heifers were taken from a pasture
in the Hasse-Lake Proctor area.
The ten were n undetermined
mix of second-calf heifers nd
older cows. Cows could be of all
colors but predominnt color of
the group should be black
The older cows were branded
with a“Hnging C” (resembling a
horseshoe) on the left hip nd the
younger cows branded with a
double C (“CC”) on the right hip.
This loss is estimated at over
$7500
Sometime prior to March 25,
three calves were taken from
property located between Energy
and Pettit on FM2466. The calves
were eight to ten weeks old. Two
were red nd white faced nd the
third is black nd white faced. The
victim did not give an estimate of
loss.
Sometime during the period of
March 30 to April 12, n Enduro
motorcycle, blue in color, 1974,
DTI75 model, serial number
443023227, was taken from a
hunting lease on county road 152.
NdBstimate of loss has been made
on this motorcycle.
On Wednesday, April 3, prior to
11 p m., seven hnd wrenches,
two screwdrivers nd 14 cassette
tapes were taken from a vehicle
parked at a residence in the 1100
block of South Houston in
Comanche. This loss is estimated
at $200
Overnight of Thursday, April 4,
nd Friday, April 5, a 1992 Ford
pickup was vndalized while
parked at a residence in the 1500
block of Comnche. An interior
mirror was broken nd the cassette
player also damaged.
Additionally, various endies
nd snacks were stolen from the
truck. No estimate of damage nd
loss has been made
At approximately 5 am. on
Saturday, April 6, a CD player nd
20 CD’s in a black leather case
were taken from a car parked at a
residence in the 400 block of
Lindsey in^omanche. The loss is
estimated at $700. ’
Between Friday, April 5, and
Monday, April 8, a door on a
hanger at the Comnche Airport
was damaged by a motor vehicle,
apparently while cutting donuts at
the airport No estimate of damage
has been given.
Between Thursday, April 4, nd
Monday, April 8, a three piece rear
deck spoiler was removed from the
trunk deck of a 1996 red Ford
Escort at a dealership in the 200
block of East Central in
Comnche. This loss is estimated
at $577.
At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April
11, a residence was set ablaze at
301 V2 North Pearl in Comnche.
An estimate of damage due to this
arson has not been made but the
house was badly damaged
A two cylinder Champion brnd
outboard motor was taken from a
boat parked in a lot in the 400
block of North Houston in
Comanche on either Sunday, April
14, or Monday, April 15.
The motor has a chrome colored
horseshoe shaped gas tnk nd a
JB weld on the prop. This motor is
valued at $500.
During the period of April 6 nd
April 20, a custom made deer horn
knife (4 !4” blade), n antique
carbon blade knife (6 Vi”), a
Winchester .22 caliber semi-auto,
two car cassette players nd a bag
of clothes were taken from a
residence in the 300 block of
Summit in Comnche. This loss is
estimated at $525.

calls every year to help the ill or
the injured, and
WHEREAS, emergency medical
teams provide lifesaving care in
Comanche 24 hours a day, seven
days a week; arid
WHEREAS, the emergency
medidal-'Sef’viee professionals of
Comanche EMS must make split-
second decisions each day in life
or death situations, saving lives
that would otherwise be lost; and
WHEREAS, access to quality
emergency care dramatically
improves the survival and
recovery rate for those who
experience sudden illness or
injury; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical
services professionals work within
an organized trauma care system
to provide timely access to quality
care to injured or ill persons; and
WHEREAS, Comanche EMS
personnel care for the community
teaching injury prevention to
citizens to lessen the occurrence
and seventy of injuries; and
WHEREAS, the Comanche
County EMS system includes a
team of paramedics, emergency
medical technicians, emergency
care attendants, instructors,
telecommunicators, medical
directors, emergency nurses,
emergency flight crews,
emergency physicians, and first
responders; and
NOW, THEREFORE, we
commend and congratulate
Comanche EMS for outstanding
dedicated prehospital and medical
care to the people of Comanche
