Iraqi Pride
Matthew Dovvling
Opinions staff writer
Contrary to popular belief the
Iraqi people are taking an active role in
protecting and developing their own
country. Critics fail to realize that just
over 1300 Iraqi soldiers and police offi-
cers have died protecting their country.
Iraqi citizens overcame death threats from
insurgents by turning out at this month's
historic election. Roughly 57 of Iraqi's
made an appearance at the polls despite
constant opposition. Voting was followed
by Iraqis dancing in the streets and proud
ly flaunting their dyed fingers proving
that they had cast their ballot. There were
also amazing stories of people carrying
their disabled family members to the
polling stations to vote and parents who
brought their children along to show them
how important it is to vote.
The celebration in one village
called al-Mudhiryah was cut short when
insurgents confronted villagers who had
voted and warned them that they would
be killed. Australian news reported that
the villagers stood up against the insur-
gents killing five of them and wounding
eight others. The villagers then carried
out their hatred of the insurgents by pro-
ceeding to set their cars ablaze. When
asked about the incident the local sheik
said that his people are sick of being
threatened by Islamic extremists.
This is just one example of how
much the Iraqis believe in the direction
that their country is headed and how pas-
sionate they are about living in a free and
peaceful society. They have stood up for
their principles and protected their coun-
try by not allowing desperate insurgents
to intimidate them. These Iraqis have
risen to the occasion like true patriots.
Your Tax Dollars at Work

Opinions writer
On November 2 the United States
realigned itself with the traditional values
that the majority of Americans have
always held. We reelected G.W. back into
office by over 3.5 million votes over the
liberal elitist Sen. John Kerry. And as we
reach back to our traditional roots we are
no longer tolerating radical left wing pro-
fessors from doing and saying whatever
they want without being held responsible.
It is imperative to hold professors
accountable like Mr. Ward Churchill of
the University of Colorado when he
decides to express his controversial views
using an academic forum. He was recent-
ly quoted as saying that the victims killed
on 91 1 were "little Eichmanns" referring
to Adolf Eichmann who coordinated the
extermination of Jews during World War
II. Churchill believes that the United
States needs to be brought to its knees
and was again quoted in an interview as
saying that "One of the things I've sug-
gested is that it may be that more 911's
are necessary." As he implied that more
attacks on America are necessary he hid
behind the phrase "Academic Freedom."
Although most professors do have a polit-
ical slant one way or another these types
of views should not be tolerated. This
goes beyond just having a point of view
and hurdles into anti-Americanism.
Wanting to bring down our government
and encouraging more 911's while being
a professor at a tax funded public univer-
sity is appalling. When asked about his
comments he has told reporters to "get
out of his explative face." It doesn't stop
there either. He has been touting himself
as being 11 6th American Indian and a
member of the Keetoowah Tribe to Party in 1980. You will now find her
