I appeal to parents to keep their
children in school until close <>f
the terra Six month- is only part
of a term and yet many boys and
girls are not allowa 1 to remain in
school until the clo-e of the lust
month. The child id denied
his lawful right when he is denied
an opportunity to gain a good prac

take place in the minds of parents

THE DAY OF THE CHILD.
"It is the child who counts The
statement sounds almost trite for
since the time when the "memory
of man runneth not to the contra-
ry" we have had it impressed
upon us in an academic sort of way
that "the boy is the father of the
man" that "the future of the
country depends upon its cl.i d
ren" "that any boy may become
president of the United States."
and similar expros-ious which we
and our fathers have taken with
about the same seriousness as we
did those companion proverbs
about rolling stones birds of a
feather and lbe like
It is only within very recent
years" that these old maxims about
children have begun to assume vi-
tal force to us. We have begun
to Htudy the child scientifically
to treat him really as the future
man. We have begun to realize
that to have strong virile men and
women we mu.-t begin with the
cradle.
In New York there has been in
progress for several weeks one of
the most important exhibits which
has ever been held here—the
Child's Welfare Exhibit. Experts
are showing in a thorough scien-
tific way what should he done and
how best to do it for the rational
development of the children along
all lines so that pov.-ically men-
tally and morally they may have
the very best chance to grow up
to be good and useful men and
wotren.

ces of the real dawning of the day
