project for consideration In the
1900 CAROL LANE Awards for
Traffic Safety:
The CAROL LANE Awards la
national program honoring
the contribution of individual

European Tour
Rev. and Mrs. George Mc-
Crary have returned from a
two-month tour of Europe They
flew by Jet plane from Dallas
to New York and from New York
to Amsterdam. After visiting In
Holland four days, they new to
Paris, France. From Paris they
made their entire European
trip by train, using a Eurallpass
which permitted them unlimit-
ed travel for two months to any
14 countries.
They visited Italy, Austria,
Oermany, Bwitaeriand. Den-
mark, Sweden, Norway. Belgium
and France. They, new to Mad-
rid, Spain and spent two nights.
Next stop was London, England
and from there they visited all
the countries In the British
Isles.
Rev. McCrary said they saw
much evidence of destruction of
World War II on their visit. He
also stated that the Europeans
went out of their way to help
them and had no 111 feelings to-
ward them.
“They felt that the United
States had made mistakes, but
still feel that we are their
strongest ally," Rev McCrary
stated.
Highlight of their trip was
seeing the Passion Play In Ober-
ammergau. Oermany. While in
Oberammergau the McCarys
visited In the home of Captain
and Mrs. Raymond Cook He is
the nephew of Mr and Mrs A
A. Cook of Ooldthwalte and
Mrs. Cook Is the niece of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Wilkins

bride of Sgt. Ronald W Heath,
July 30. I960, In a ceremony at
Colorado Springs. Colorado
Sgt. Heath Is the son of Mr
and Mrs. M. L. Heath and
grandson of Mrs. W A. Heath,
all of Ooldthwalte He reinllst-
ed In the Army March 15 of thLs
year and has been promoted to
Sargeant since his relnllstment.
The couple are now at home
at 1721 Arbor Way, Colorado
Springs, Colorado
women and women’s clubs to
traffic safety in the community
or state. It Is administered by
the National Safety Council
through a grant ol Shell oil
Company, and is named for
Shell’s women's travel director.
Judging for the CAROL LANE
Awards will be completed Au-
gust 19. The Judges are promin-
ent women leaders In traffic
safety and other community
work.
Winners of the 1960 CAROL
LANE Awards will be announ-
ced during the National 8afety
Congress in Chicago. October
17-21 The top winners will be
guests of 8hell Oil there during
the Congress and will be pre-
sented with thflr awards at a
luncheon given In their honor.
Awards are given for projects
In three categories: rural areas
and towns up to 25,000 In popu-
lation; towns of 25,000 or more;
and an entire state. Top award
In each category is a $1,000 Sav-
ings Bond and a sculpture sym-
bolizing "woman’s protective In-
stinct.” 8econd place awards are
$500 in bonds and bas-relief
plaques of the statue. Third
place winners each receive $250
In bonds and the plaques.

the 12th Annual Sul Ross Read-
ing Conference held recently In
Alpine
In daily 6-hour workshop ses-
sions they heard addresses by
three nationally known experts
In the teaching of reading: Dr.
Loban, University of California
at Berkley; Dr Tom Horn, Uni-
versity of Texas, and Mrs. The-
resa Carrell, Texas Education
Agency.

pan with the boiling water and
salt. Cover. Bring to boiling
point. Cook until crispi-tender,
about 15 minutes. Drain If
necessary. In the meantime, fry
4 strips bacon until crslp. Re-
move from the pan. Pour off all
fat except 2 tablespoons. Add
green pepper and onions and
saute until almost limp. Add
drained squash and black pep-
per. Heat. Turn into serving
dish. Crumble bacon and sprin-
kle over the top. Serve hot.
