You can’t tell anything about
a man’s bank account by the
kind of an automoblile he owns.
If I had a few thousand dol-
lars that were not; working I
would rather invest them in va-
cant lots in Eagle Pass than in
any bank or corporation stock in
town.
—--—.....------
There are railroad and rumors
of railroads. Southwest Texas
has railroad fever- It is epide-
mic. Eagle Pass is bound to
have a “case” in every short
while.
Bill Easterling is beginning to
make a noise like William Ran-
dolf Hearst, the perpetual can-
didate for anyoldoffice. Bill re-
cently bought the Loraine News,
married into the Big Spings En-
terprise and now has purchased
another paper in that section of
the State. Hearst accumulated
a lot of newspaters before he
commenced running for office.
What is Bill up to?
Even Floresville has organized
a business men’s club. In this
age of united effort no town can
expect to make any advance-
ment as a town without a live,
aggressive business men’s club.
Wilson county would make a
hundred per cent on the invest-
ment |if she would invest about
four or five thousand dollars a
year in a push-ahead business
men’s club with a high salaried
secretary.
Which do you think the best

ideas and facts and let your
readers think them over and
study them out, or to do all the

are writing.—Laredo Times.
Were I writing for the readers
in your locality I would do all
the thinking myself. Out here
ers can do better thinking than
I. It is demonstrated in every
issue of the paper.
The more we study man the
more peculiarities we find in him.
If a biscuit is dropped on the
spotlessly clean floor at break-
fast, he won’t think of eating it
—if he drops his plug of tobacco
on the streets he will pick it up
and take as big a chew as ever.
If one of the children drinks out
of a glass of milk, he will set it
aside—but he will ram the neck
of a quart bottle half way down
his throat after every old sot in
town has had a pull at it.—Rotan

There is no good reason why
Eagle Pass should not have pav-
ed streets by the time the Dry
Farming Congress meets nere
in August. The county will have
a street roller. There is plenty
of good sand, fine gravel and
clay within a stone’s throw of
Main street. Labor is cheap.
Sand, clay, small gravel, a
street sprinkler, a street roller
and cheap labor—could any more
ideal conditions be asked? To
fix the streets properly a bond
issue would prove one of the
best investments the City could
make. Let posterity help pay
for some of the permanent im-
provements that said posterity
will reap the benefit from. A
bond issue would work no hard-
ship on any one. Would be of
benefit to every one, and would
be the biggest thing in the way
of publicity and progress that
Eagle Pass could pull off. Think
about the proposition. If you
have any thinks that would be
of benefit to the public, either
for or against the above scheme,
write them on a piece of paper,
sign your name to them and
bring them to this office. The
columns are always open to a
discussion of questions concern-
ing the material welfare of the
community.

One of the most ridiculous and
nonsensical talks heard in a long

round recently that the great
Merger lines in Mexico were go-

rail, from the Rio Grande border
to the capital of Mexico and oth-
interior points, in order to build
up shorter hauls from the gulf

When a damsel has a steady
who’s a pretty decent man, and
who shows a disposition to per-
form the best he can; who is shy
of sinful habits, and whose bosom
holds no guile, and who labors in
the vineyard with a gay and
cheerful smile, then she shouldn’t
make him promise that he’ll do a
seraph stunt, when they’ve stood
up at the altar with the preacher
man in front and she shouldn’t
spring a lecture when he comes
around to court, for a man is
only human and his wings are
pretty short. When a maiden
has a lover who is surely making
good, who is winning admiration,
who is sawing lots of wood, then
she should not make him promise
that he’ll be an angel boy when
the wedding ceremony ushers in
life of joy she should murmur:
“He’s a daisy, and we’ll take
things as they comes for a man
is only human, and his halo’s on
the bum. ”—Walt Mason.
