ROGER RAMEY MEMORIAL
With memorial contributions
for the late Lt. Gen. Roger M.
Ramey, the Denton City-County
Public Library, purchased a
standard 30 tray card catalogue
and a lighted globe.
The globe will be placed in the
Children’s Division of the library.
Gen. Ramey was a native of
Denton and his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. M. L. Ramey still live here.
Gen. Ramey was in the U. S.
Air Force from 1924 until his
forced medical retirement in
1957.
This editor knew Roger Ramey
as a boy in Denton, and even
then he showed signs of the abi-
lity which later put him at the
pinnacle of fame.
He has taken a part in this
year’s Senior Play.
He is active in Denton’s First
Baptist Church.
He is junior counselor of the
Order of DeMolay.
He was one of Denton’s repre-
sentatives to Boys’ State in 1963.
Like most high school boys, he
dates and is active in his school’s
social life.
MRS. J. EDWIN TAYLOR
PASSES
Mrs. Taylor, 78, a resident of
Denton for 49 years, died at 1:35
p.m. Monday in Flow Memorial
Hospital after a short illness.
She was born Dec. 22, 1885, in
Springfield, Mo., and was mar-
ried to Dr. Jo Edwin Taylor Dec.
31, 1912, in Waco.
She was a member of the
First Christian Church and of
the Daughters of the American
Revolution.
She graduated from TCU in
1906 and was on the speech fac-
ulty at NTSU for 15 years before
she opened a speech studio in
her home where she taught for
35 years.
In the oast few years she has
assisted her husband, Dr. J. Ed-
win Taylor, in his office.
She is survived by her hus-
band; two daughters, Mrs. Jack
W. Harris of Houston and Mrs.
W. M. Chang of Altadena, Calif.;
two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Hall of
Van Nuys, Calif, and Mrs. Frank
Darlington of Austin.
The need for courage and endurance is ever present in
life. Experience has proven that defeat can be turned into
victory when we have the necessary dedication. The
strength to go on struggling and salvaging what can be
salvaged has saved many lives from disaster.
OSCAR BURTON OF TYLER
Mr. Oscar Burton, 82, the fa-
ther of a long-time Denton resi-
dent, Mrs. Murray (Lura) Ken-
drick, died.
Mr. Burton, a native Texan,
died after suffering an apparent
heart attack.
A former mayor of Tyler, he
was active in civic affairs. He
headed numerous Tyler Chamber
of Commerce committees and
was a member of the Rotary
Club.
Mr. Burton had just recently
retired as general manager of
Gulf States Telephone Co.
He was a member of Scottish
Rite and was honored recently
for 50 years of active service
in Masonry. He was also active
in the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow of
Tyler; Mrs. Kendrick; two sons,
Morris of Tyler and Harris of
Wichita, Kan.; and four grand-
children.
The Doings editor regrets that
he did not have the pleasure of
knowing Mr. Burton. He “spoke
our language.”
His son-in-law, Murray Ken-
drick, has been a member of the
Denton Rotary Club a long time.

tor of the government depart-
