Is The Day When We Decide Whether or not Hockley County is to Have
. 9
A Complete System Of Hard Surfaced Roads
j.
OUTSTANDING POINTS
OF THE PROGRAM
INCLUDE:
1. Approximately 20 miles
of this program is state desig-
nated farm-to-market roads
paid for with state and federal
funds.
2. Six and one-half miles
of road from Sundown to High-
way 51 is now under con-
struction which is being fin-
anced out of present county
funds.
3. Seven miles from Sun-
down north to Cook’s Filling
Station is to be rebuilt and
improved.
4. The oil field roads will
be heavier and more costly
than other roads due to the
heavier type traffic.
5. The rest of the roads of
the county will be built simi-
lar to and as good as the lat-
eral roads we already have to
Ropes, Anton, Pettit and Pep.
6. There has been desig-
nated 42 miles of these roads
in each district, which will be
constructed as economically as
possible using all available re-
sources. Then, it is hoped that
additional miles of roads,
which have not been desig-
nated, can be constructed in ■ »
each precinct. *
Financing the Bond Issue:
The election order calls for
the issuance of $850,000.00 in
Road Bonds to be matured in
10 years. These bonds can be
sold for less than one and one-
half percent interest. Hock-
ley County has NOW a tax-
able valuation of over $33,-
000,000.00 with a1 reasonable
prospect that this valuation
will increase rather than de-
cline in the next several years.
Based on these figures an in-
crease of 20c on the $100
valuation in the interest and
sinking fund tax levies will
amply service these bonds on
the ten year maturity. This t
will mean in increase in coun-
ty taxes of $2.54 per year on j
a labor o$ land. *
