Exhibit Explores Wonders
of Medicine
. By Stacy Deibler
Through the ages, medicines have
changed the way we live, and
allowed us to live longer. Without
them, medical care would still be a
primitive affair. And the future holds
even more promise. “Medicines: The
Inside Story,” an innovative multi-
media museum exhibit premiering in
Atlanta this month, takes an in-depth
look at the past, present and future of
medicines.
Learn how and why medicines
work, current trends, the future of
medicinal research, and the ever-
changing role medicines play in soci-
ety. Visitors can take a multimedia
journey through the world of medi-
cines and the wonders of the human
body via live demonstrations, video
programs, traditional displays and
interactive games. The exhibit is also
available on CD-ROM. Topics
include:
• What is a Medicine? Learn about
the different types and forms of med-
ication, questions to ask before taking
any drug, how food and vitamins
work, and alternative healing tech-
niques.
• How Medicines Work. Get a
first-hand view of how drugs work in
ihe body with “Chain Terminator,”
an animated video of one medicine's
amazing journey through the body.
• Five Generations. Explore how
drugs have changed American soci-
ety from the 188()s to today.
• Tools of the Scientist. Follow the
evolution of research from a rudimen-
tary 1920s lab to a modem, comput-
erized lab. See live demonstrations of
lab techniques from each era.
A symposium March 28-29
(Atlanta) will focus on themes cov-
ered in the exhibit, with former
Surgeon General C. Everett Koop as
keynote speaker.

loaned or on the number of tracts
that an individual can bid on. How-
ever, eligible Texas veterans are
limited to one purchase in the sale.
“Since these tracts have never
been offered for sale by the board,
this sale gives Texas veterans an
excellent opportunity to buy good
land with 100 percent financing,”
said Texas Land Commissioner
Garry Mauro who is VLB chair-
man.
Mauro noted that setting aside
new forfeitures exclusively for
bids from Texas veterans is a long-
time VLB policy.
“The Veterans Land Program
is part otaTgxas tradition that goes
back to the days of the Republic of
Texas,” Mauro said. “It’s my be-
lief that Texas veterans should get
first shot at any forfeited tracts.”
Tracts not sold in the April sale
will be offered to both veterans and
non-veterans through local real
estate agents.
Texas veterans will receive a
7.64 percent interest rate with a 30-
year assumable fixed-rate
loan. A $25 non-refundable fee
for each bid is required.
The sale will be by sealed bid
only, with a minimum bid set by
the board. All bids must be re-
ceived by April 23 at 1 p.m. Bid-
ders need not be present at the
opening.
Details of the sale can be ob-
tained by calling 1-800-252-VETS.

IN MEMORY OF
CONCEPCION "CHONITA" RANGEL BARRERA
God saw that she was getting tired and a
cure was not to be. So he put his arm around
her and whispered, "Come how with me."
With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and
saw her fade away. Although we loved her
dearly, we could not make her stay. A
golden heart stopped beating, a determined
spirit was laid to rest. God broke out hearts
to provide to us, He only takes the very best.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to our many friends and
relatives who so kindly offered their condolences during the death of otir
beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her memories and
the impact she make in our lives will live with us forever. The many gifts
of flowers, food, cards, phone calls, and presence during our time of
sorrow are truly appreciated.
