County Officials Take Oath January I
Boyd Turner Dies
At Home
Boyd Turner, well known
resident of this community,
died suddenly at his home on
Wednesday, December 29, 1976,
at the age of 76 years. Many
relatives and friends mourn Mr.
Turner, Who was highly
esteemed in this community
where he had lived for the past
sixty years.
Thomas Boyd Turner was
born May 9, 1900, in Yoakum,
Texas, the son of Robert C.
Turner and Josephine Hef-
fernan Turner. He came to
Bandera in 1916 and had resided
here since. On September 27,
1927, he was happily married to
Miss Josephine Postert and
their union was blessed with
five children.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Josephine Turner of
Bandera; three sons, Eugene
Turner of Houston, Edward
Turner of Houston, and Ray
Turner of Bandera; two
daughters, Mrs. Ethel Fit-

1977 Cowboy Capitol Trail Queen
Bandera County Officials who were elected in the last election
were sworn in Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at the Bandera
County Court House.
Mrs. Olga Schmidt, District and County Clerk, administered the
[ oath of office to W.S. (Bill) James, County Sheriff; Jimmy Russell,
™ Jr., Commissioner of Precinct No. 1; Bob Ashley, Commissioner of
Precinct No. 3; Ronald M. Jackson, County Attorney; Warren
Hyde, Constable, Precinct No. 1; and Milton Lewis, Constable,
Precinct No. 2.
Mrs. Marguerite Stevens, County Tax Assessor-Collector, was
sworn into office on December l, 1976, to make the bond of the office
valid.

Plummer Chapel on Thursday
evening, December 30, at 7:30
with Bobby Stein officiating and
Requiem Mass was celebrated
at St. Stanislaus Catholic
Church on Friday morning,
December 31, at 10 o’clock with
Rev. Edward Postert of
Brackettville and Msgr. B.J.
Hubertus of St. Stanislaus
Church officiating.
He was laid to rest in the
Catholic Cemetery under the
direction of Plummer Chapel.
Casket carriers were Felix

Chastain, and Pat Tucker.

In a candlelight ceremony
Saturday, December 18, in the
First Baptist Church, Wisnei*,
Louisiana, Miss Beth Cummins,
daughter of Mr and Mrs Don
Cummins of Crowville,
Louisiana, became the bride of
Mark Allert of Bandera. He is
the son of Mrs. Jane Allert of
Bandera and the late Mr. Bob
Allert.
Candlelabra with lighted
burgundy tapers banked the
altar where Dr. Milton Williams
performed the double ring
ceremony. ....... * i ,
An organ prelude and the
traditional wedding marches
were played by Marian Allert,
sister of the groom. Candles
were lighted by Lorie and
Brenda Howington.

father, the bride wore a formal
gown of candlelight silk organza
over taffeta. The fitted bodice
and V-neckline were overlaid in
Cluny lace with the lace
repeated in the full- Bishop
sleeves. The A-line skirt, falling
from a raised waist, was en-
circled with rows of matching
Cluny lace and swept into a full
chapel length train. Her tiered
veil of illusion Was held by a
tiara embellished with pearls
and sequins. She carried, a
Cascade of burgundy roses with
baby's breath and streamers of
candlelight ribbon.
Miss Debbie Cummins served
her sister as maid of honor.
Bridesmartls were Miss Jane
Cummins; sister of the bride,
and Miss Patricia Carll, cousin
of the groom: They wore
identical dresses of burgundy
knit with ivory lace edging the
V-necklines. Each carried a
long stemmed pink carnation
with burgundy streamers.
Bobby Boyd attended Mr.
Allert as best man. Groomsmen
were Jeff Hearn and Tommy
Killian.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the
fellowship hall of the church.
Covered.with candelight lace
cloth, the bride's table was
centered with her bouquet and
silver candlelabra holding
burgundy tapers. The groom’s
table was centered with an
’ arrangement of burgundy
candles and grapes
Following a wedding trip to
Aspen,Colorado, the couple will
be at home in Bandera
New High School
Construction on the new
Bandera High School was ap-
proximately eighty percent
complete as of December 31,
1976. The Math Building,
Library-Science Building and
the Vocational Ag Shop are the
most complete, with minor
trim-out and flooring remaining
to be completed. The Cafeteria-
Homemaking Building has
sdme mechanical-electrical
trim-out and interior finishes
remaining to be done. Some
kitchen equipment has been
installed. The Gymnasium has
been enclose^ with interior
finishes, trim-out, gym seating
and flooring remaining to be
completed. Masonry work is
progressing on the Ad-
ministration Building, with
roofing, interior finishes and
trim-out remaining to be
completed. The concrete roof
beams are progressing on the
Auditorium, with roof decks and
roofing, exterior and interior
masonry, and all finishes
remaining to be completed. The
scheduled date for completion is
April 13, 1977. • *

abundance of deer, however, this big cat is credited with killing
least 34 deer in the same pasture on the ranch this year.’
Bob also reported that the
ranch had been stocked with a
number of Mouflon sheep, and
all had been killed by this
predator.
The big cat drew a large
number of spectators Monday
when Bob brought her in to

Junior Stock Show Set
For Jon. 13,14,15
Rhonda Camille Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L.
Fleming of Rancho Alegre, Medina, Texas, has been named Queen
of the 1977 Cowboy Capitol Trail. Rhonda, fourteen years old and a
freshman at Bandera High School, was led on a pony on her first
trail ride by her parents and has participated in the Cowboy Capitol
Trail since its beginning in 1969.
In announcing the 1977 Queen, Frank R. Anderwald, trail boss,
comments: “We will be proud to have Rhonda represent Bandera
and the trail during our big 1977 ride to San Antonio February 8th-
11th. Shehas grown up on our trail and is an accomplished cowgirl
and a lovely young lady.”
The 9th Annual Cowboy Capitol Trail Ride is one of the official
rides of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Improvement Association for
the 1977 Junior Livestock Show
which will be held on January
13, 14, and 15 at the Bandera
Recreation Center.
The program for the three
day event is as follows:
January 13—All animals start
arriving at 1 p.m. All animals
must have a health check before
they can be unloaded Farm
mechanics projects be in place,
1:00 p.m.. Judging Farm
Mechanics projects, 3:00 p.m..
All animals in place by 5;Q0
p.m..
January. 14—Judging Fat
barrows, 8:00 a m. 9:00 a m.,
judging steers, judging capons;

registered sheep, judging of
commercial fine wool; judging
of Angora goats; 1:00 p.m.,
judging of market lambs
On January 15, the baked
products arrive at 8:00 a m.
followed by judging at 9 a.m.. At
11:00 a m. the auction of baked
pods will be held. Awards will
announced at 1:00 p.m. and
at 1:30 p.m. the livestock
auction will take place.
Entries in the Bake Show
must be made by January 6 and
other entries by January 9.
The AIMS Club of Medina will
have the concession stand at the
three day show this year.

but was the day on which Greg
and Tim Schmidt, sons of Mr
and Mrs. Johnie E. Schmidt,
caught this trophy bobcat.
The cat was caught on the 4J
Ranch on Highway 173. It
measured 45 inches in length
and weighed approximately 35
pounds. __
