Notice To Motor
Vehicle Owners
The 1947 motor vehicle license plates
are now in the office of the Edwards
County Tax Assessor and Collector.
Sheriff R. R. Corder has received the
following memorandum from the Tex-
as Highway Department:
“With so many new Tax Assessors-
Collectors in office, we feel it appro-
priate to call attention to the provi-
sion in the statutes which should he
closely followed in that the re-registra-
tion of vehicles which are required un-
der the law to be titled, should not
be made until such title has been is-
sued. In the past year there have been
hundreds of requests for titles reject-
ed, and these vehicles should not be
re-registered until title has been issu-
ed.”
Another interesting notation in the
same memorandum states, "You will
note that the series of numbers assign-
ed to each County for 1947 is entirely
different from the numbers assigned in
previous years. It was necessary to
make plates for 6 months before any
kind of an accurate distribution list
could be furnished the Texas Prison
System. By that time there were over
a million plates manufactured, and it
would have been physically impossible,
using prison labor, to sort out' of enor-
mous stacks of license plates any cer-
tain numbers.
“It was therefore necessary to issue
to each county the first series avail-
able at such time as the plates for
such county were loaded and shipped.
We trust that in future years it will
not be ncessary to deviate from our
previous practice.
“D. C. GREER,
“State Highway Engineer.”

helpful in giving them a trade when
they are cured and return to civilian
life.
On behalf of Red Cross, the patients

in Rocksprings.
We want everyone interested in the
R. P). A. to make a special effort to
attend, for at this meeting we arc
going to make a report to the people
as to what we have done and what
we will have to do to get R. E. A.
service in this county.
Chester Kirk, manager of the Kimble
Electric Co-op, will be here to answer
any questions.
It is very important that we send in
our applications this month, otherwise
we will have to wait until we get
another appropriation in the new fis-
cal year.
This will be a regular meeting of
the Edwards County Chamber of
Commerce, which is very interested in
assisting the ranchmen get Rural Iil-
ectrification on their ranches.

Football Banquet
For Billy Kids
Terminating the 1946-47 activities for
the junior football boys, "Billy Kids”
was a banquet party, FYiday evening,
February 28th, at the club house. Ex-
penses of the party were paid out of
proceeds earned by the boys, and their
mothers assisted with the refresh-
ment's, decorations, and other details.
Decorations of the club house were
carried out in the color scheme of red
and white, the school colors. The girls
were dressed formal and a corsage of
white daisies tied with red ribbon,
was pinned on their shoulder a~s eachj
girl arrived, as a gift from the foot-
ball boy.
The banquet table was placed in the
center of the room and was covered
with white and edged in a red double
ruffle. It held the large white cake
with a football outline and the inscrip-
tion, “Billy Kids,” ’in the icing. Red
tapers completed this arrangement.
Circling the banquet table were card
tables, carrying out the same color
scheme, and holding the place cards.
These cards were miniature footballs,
cut out Of leather, and laced with

Income Taxes Must
Be In Before 15th
Frank Scofield, Collector of Inter-
nal Revnue for the the First Texas
district, reminded taxpayers today that
their income tax returns should be fil-
ed before March 15th at his office at
Austin, Texas.
Collector Scofield cautioned that re-
turns should NOT be sent to Wash-
ington and thereby cause needless ex-
pense and delay in shipping the returns
back to the home district.
Because of the millions of returns
that must be handled at this time of
year the Collector urged taxpayers to
facilitate the work by making sure
their returns arc complete and signed,
that all ncessary documents are en-
closd. and that the envelope (if mailed)
is addressed to “Collector of Internal
Revenue, Austin, Texas.”
Although March 15 b the deadline,
Mr. Scofield requested taxpayers to
save both themselves and the govern-
ment needless expense and inconven-
ience by filing as far ahead of March
15 as possible.

CORRECTION
In last week’s paper we stated in
“Around the Square” that Edwards
County had purchased a Catapillar Ex-
cavator and Loader which was pur-
chased by Precinct No. 1 but would
be used wherever needed in county.
We were mistaken about this ma-
chinery being purcased by Precinct
No. 1. It was purchased by the County
as a whole, and paid for by bonds
provided for such purposes, by the
County tax payers.

LEGION AUXILIARY
MEMBERS
1947 PMA Program
For This County
I he County Committee received an
alloct&ion of 896,700 to spend on ap-
proved conservation practices under
the 1947 PMA Program. Of this
amount the committee has obligated
$55,045.10 to ranchers in prior appro-
vals. Before prior approval can be
issued an inspection has to be made
by one of the Range Inspectors, there-
fore all ranchmen that plan to begin
work on a practice within the next
two months should file his request at
the PMA Office now so that the of-
fice will have sufficient time to do
the preliminary work and issue the
prior approval before the practice is
begun. Ranchers planning to do work
later in the year should not file their
requests for inspection now but should
file it within two or three weeks be-
fore the work is to begin. Prior ap-
provals cannot be issued after the
work begins. Should a rancher fail to
get written prior approval for a imac-
tice payment cannot be made.
All ranchmen that want to have
work done under the Purchase Order
Plan must make their contacts with
bonafide contractors and advise the
county office the contractor’s name,
address and the contract price at the
time prior approval is issued so that
authorization for Purchase Order can
be issued at that time. Payment can
be made to a contractor for the rancher
under Purchase Order only when au-
thorization is issued by the County
Committee before the work begins
and the practice, when completed,
meets specifications.
