The innocent are often made t o
suffer for the sins of others. We
heard a white man complaining
this week because lie could not get
a job picking cotton, and made the
statement that the negroes were
taking this country and robbing
the white men of the work.
One objection the farmers are
making to cutting the cotton acre-
age is that cotton is our cash
crop. Not so this year. There are
other crops that are better cash
crops than cotton. Its a mighty
small hog that will not bring as
much cash ay a hale of cotton.

San Angelo is to have' a new
[paper which will make its appear-

known as the Sun. E. K. Doyle,
recently connected with the Tem-

newspaper man of this part of the
state, will join J. W. Williams, an
Angelo printer in the launching
of the Sun. May the Sun’s rays
be bright and a blessing to San

Jasper Jackson, better known
among his race as “Buck Shot” is
in the Ballinger jail charged with
burglary and theft of goods to
the value of #62.50.
Buck Shot broke into tin* house
of Will Porter, another negro,
And made his get-away with Por-
ter’s goodg to the amount of
$62.50. When Porter missed the
goods he suspieioned Buck Shot
and he reported the matter to the
officers and put the officers < u
Buck Shot’s trail. Among the
items missing from Porter’s home
was his hat and a suit of clothes.
Buck Shot was kind, enough to
leave his old hat in place of tin*
good hat, and this led to tin* clue
that landed him in jail.
Deputy Sheriff Perkins trailed
tin* negro to San Angelo where In*
caught him and brought him back
to Ballinger, together with all the
stolen property except a $25
watch which Buck Shot “soaked”
for #1.50 at Rowena. Included In
the items of stolen property was a
six shooter. Buck Shot still had
this when arrested.
The negro broke into the house
which constitutes a charge of
burglary and In* alos stole goods |
to tin* value of #50 which con-
stitutes another felony charge, lie
has pled guilty to the offense, or
at least admits his guilt, and will
no doubt be given tin* usual pun
ishment for such crime.

Health First
In buying food articles we must consider
several things—economy, results, conveni-
ence, reliability; but the most important is
Health.
Health means everything. If one gets
cheated in buying dresses, shoes or bonnets it
is provoking, but the harm is chiefly loss of
money. In buying food articles, if imitations
or poor stuffs are supplied, there is a loss of
money and probably an injury to health also;
and good health is beyond price.
Remember these facts when buying baking
powder.
