NEWSY LKTTKR FROM EDOM.
[From our regular correspondent.)
gny-Tbe month of March has been
most remarkable to the present writ-
ing. To day, the 22nd. the son crosses
the equator. The mariner is looking
out for the equinoxial gale. There
has not been a strong windy day dur-
ing the month. The Spring has o-
pened upon us very beautifully.
The orchards are in full bloom—of
peaches, ect , and the trees of the for-
est are assuming the coat of “living
green.” Taking all things into con-1
sideration, we have the most forward
Spring for many years, and we hope
wo will have a good crop year general-
ly.
Hair Outs are very promising. Corn
is up to a good stand on many farms—
and some ready to work.
Hair There is some cotton planted,
in the country.
Hoir'l'he merchants of our town
seem to be doing well and in^ lively
spirits They are opening up fineand
saleable stocks of goods, and we see
they are at no trouble to sell as many
as they desire.
JtjrEdom is yet a point of growing
commercial Interest, and importance.
When the farmers of any community
look to their interest ns they do in
our vicinity, and attend strictly to
their own business, we will find pros-
perity smiling upon all homes—to ev
ery public man, and to the farmer
himself.
Htf-Ur. W. O. Williams, ofCnntqn,
was in town a few days ago shaking
hands with his old friends and look
ing after some cattle interest in our
vicinity.
War-Capt. A. N. Alford, of Wills
Point, wss in town a few days ago,
looking after some land interests he
owns in our vicinity. The Captain i*
a genial and gifted business man, and
is truly a success in lite. We hope
that he will call aguin, soon.
Wa#“ Dwellie Rose Esqr., of Owlet
Green, was in town to-day, looking
hale and hearty We regret to lean:
the that he is a looser in the late fire, at
Owlet Green, to the amount of his ele-
gnnt store house. This house was
one of the most substantial buildings
in the county, to it's size, etc,. The
sympathy or th" entire community is
with Mr. Rose in his loss. He is a
fine farmer, and has completed, re-
cently, his elegant dwelling house on
his farm; it is now ready for the paint,
and when the finish is put on, will fie
a “daisy.” He has a fine farm which
is finely cultivated. We hope his loss
will not be so much ns we have been
informed.
HarDr. Ervin, of Kaufman county,
has located in this town, to practice
his profession. The doctor comes
well recommened. and is a graduate
of the University of Louisville, Ken-
tucky. We bespeuk for him a liberal
yatronnge. The Rev Mr. Bedell
