STRANGE HALLUCINATION.

A (amalc inmate of the JJearbon
County (Ind.) Aiyluin has been cured
at a strange hallucination in a ratbet
singular manner. The patient was •
middle-aged lady by the nmnu of Cuta-
way. who believed .lie bad a pup in her
stomach, and while reasonably intelli-
gent upon every other subject vehe-
mently Insisted that a young dog had
taken up its aliode in her slomaoh, and
the presenoe of the uuweleorae animal
was the cause of all her physical ail-
ments. This insane idea caused her to
be extremely troublesome to her keep-
ers, as she governed herself according
to the supposed whims of her internal
mmpanion, and at eertain times roust
save certain kinds of food and certain
kinds of drink, because
THE PUP WITHriC HER
Ranted that kind of nourishment, and
nothing else would appease its sup-
posed vieiousnass. It her whims were
sot complied with she would become
almost ungovernable, and her aunoy-
snoes of that oharacter caused her to
m a aouroe of constant trouble. Noth-
ing that had ever been said or doue
,-ould remove the vagaries from the
mind of this unfortunate woman, who
would bark like a dog and in other
waya attempt to imitate the actions of
luch animals. Having repeatedly as-
ifcrted that if the pup could be remove!
xom her stomach she knew she would
recover her health, the Superintendent
resolved to work a plan that might con-
rtnoa her that the cruel creature thnt
troubled her had been taken uwuy. A
physician was consulted and thought
the scheme could do no barm, and it
might do good. The patient was vis-
tod. and after listening to the proposit-
ion of an attempt to
RELIEVE HKROP HER AFFLICTION
?be consent ed to undergo the experi-
ment, and ag reed upon a future day
when the doctor should attend and
make the trial. In the mean t me a
pup was procured and everything got
in readiness, the woman being led to
regard the undertaking as a very seri-
>us and important one. Sho was plac-
id under the influence of a narcotic,
ind the pup that bad been secured for
the occasion was given a sufficient
{uantity to keep it quiet. Soon as the
latient began to recover froiu thi in -
lueno • of the drug, she vomited, and
it the opportune moment, the pup was
lropped into the vessel which received
the contents of her stomach. The wo-
man beheld the animal, and firmly be-
Iteved she had thrown it up, and spood-
ly rev ving from the o fleets of the nar-
rotic, she Wanted to feel and exam ne
he creature that had been, ns she sup-
posed.
EJECTED FROM HER STOMACH,
i'he animal, recovering from the stu-
por, became quite fr skv, much to the
mrprise and delight of the poor patient,
who insisted on foil lling and carress-
ng it, while expre ssing herself as feei-
ng wonderfully relieved by its remov-
d and perf ectly restored to health. She
las ceased to complain, and is entirely
!reed from the peculiar hallucination
that possessed her, and is now as pleas-
int and quiet as any inmate in the asy-
um. She guards with most jealous
tare <be pup that has so long, as she
maginnd, dwelt wi thin her, fearing
;bat if it is not kindly treated It might
weary of its acquired freedom and mnn-
tge to return to ts human abode, anil
hen all her pain and suflering would
;ome back. The cure that has thus
teen effected is the subject of much
vroiment among those acqua nted with
he history of th o affair. — Cincinnati

Punctuality.
One of the many forms of evil is a
want of punctuality, the root of all

ipec al infirmity is temporary incon-
renience or disappoitment. But this
s not so. If one of his delays should

reliableness. Do nil that you promise

How ttnowd Business Men Have Solved
a Oreat Problem.
"la there a fatality among uur promi-
nent men” Is a quest on that we oftcu
ask. It la a qui'Stion’that perplexes our
leading medical men. and they are at a
loss to know how 10 answer it.
We sometimes th nk that if the phy-
sicians would give part of tbe energy
to the consideration of this question
that they give to combatting other
si h<M)is of praotice, it in ght lie satis-
factorily answered.
The fig! ts of '‘isms” rem nds us
often of the quarrels of old Indian
II U s, that were only happy when they
were annihilating each oihor.
If Allopathy makes a discovery that
prom ses good to the race, Hoimrpathy
derides it and breaks down its iftflit-
snee. If Uomecpatliy makes a dis-
covery that prniii s-'S to lie a boon to
Ibe race, Allopathy attacks it.
It is absurb that theaeachools should
fancy that all of good la in tboir meth-
ods and none in anv other.
Fortunately for the people, the merit
which these • isms’' will not recognise,
is recognized by the nubile, and this
public recognition, taking the form of
a demand upon the medical profession,
oventuallv compels it to recogn ze it.
Is it possible that thu quest on lias
been answered by shrewd business
men? A prominent man once said to
an inquirer, wbo asked him bow he got
rich, “1 got rich because I did things
while other people were thinking
about doing them." It seems to us
that the public have recognized, what
this fatality is, anJ bow it cun bn met,
while thu medical profusion have been
wrangl'Dg about it.
By a caretul examination of insur-
ance reports wo find that there has
been a sharp reform with reference to
exam nations, (and that no man can
now get any amount of insurance who
has the least development of kidney
disorder,) because they find that sixty
out of every hundred in this country
do, either d-rectly or indiroetly, suffer
from kidney disease. Ilence, no reli-
able company will insure a man except
after a rigid ur-nary examination.
This remn ds ns of a little instance
which occurred a short time ago. A
fellow editor was an applicant for a
respectable amount of insurance. He
was rejected on examinat-oo, because,
unknown to himself, bis kidney s were
(1 sensed. Tbe shrewd agent, however,
did not give up the case, llo had an
eye to business and to bis commission,
and said: “Don’t you worry; you get
a half dozen bottles of Warner’s safe
cure, take it according to directions
and in about a month cornu around,
and we will have another examination
I know you will find yourself all right
and will get your policy."
Tbe bditor exprea-ed surprise a', the
agent's fath, but tlie latter replied:
"This point ia a valuable one. Very
many insurance agents all over the
country, when they find a customer
rejected for this cause, give similar
advice, and eventually he gets the
insurance. ’
What are wc to infer from Mich cir-
cumstances? Have shrewd msuranc-
men, as well as other shrewd bus.ness
men, found the secret answer to the
inquiry ? Is it possible that our col-
umns have been proclaiming, in the
form of advertisements, what has
proved a blessing in disguise to mil-
lions, and y et by many ignored as an
advertisement?
In our files we find thousands of
strong testimonials for Warner’s safe
cure, no two alike, which could nol
exist except upon a basis of truth; in-
deed, they are published under a guar-
antee of'$.5,000 to any ono who will
d.sprove their correctness, and this
has offer b'-en standing, wo are told,
for more than four yi at*.
Undoubtedly this article, which is
simply dealing out justirc, will he con-
sidered as an advertisement and be
rejected by many as inch.
We have not space nor time to dis-
cuss the propost on that a poor th ng
could not succeed to the extent that
this great remedy has succeeded, could
not beeomo so popular without merit
even if pushed by a Vanderbilt or an
Astor.
Hence wo take the liberty of telling
onr friends that it is a duty that they
owe themselves to investigate the mat-
ter and reflect carefully for the state
ments published aro subject to the
refutation of the entire world
None have refuted them; on the con-
trary hundreds of thousands have
believed them and proved them true,
and in believing have found the high
ost measure of satisfaction, that which
money cannot buy and money cannot
take away.
