A Georgia farmer made $100 off an

neighboring doctor made $200 off the

If you feel an interest in the devel-
opment of the resouiccs of Van Zandt
county, atteml the citizens’ meeting
at the court house to morrow night.
Counties in Westen Texas and in
other localities are constantly failing
in the production of crops. Van
Zandt county never had a failure yet

There are some farmers who lire
continually buying meat Suqh arc
never prosperous When they raise
their own meat at home, a thing ens
ily done if tried, they will tind their
pockets in much easier condition at
the dose of 1 lie year, and not empty
at the hpgiuing of the year.—Rock-
tints Afessettytr.
It is a rare tiling that we see our
farmers buying meat. They are
learning to raise their own bread and
meat, and live at home.
The Canton (Tex ) I ici.i t lloxE
thinks the New York "Personal Lib-
Tty” party could get several follow-
ers in Texas as "Personal Liberty’’
was so well eulogized in the recent
campaign there. ‘‘Pereoncl Liberty”
is a mighty big word for an arc hist and
"sich like” to use, hut it does seem
liko if we don’t put. it in hotter hands
than such as they for safe keeping
our capital in "Personal Liberty”
will be getting rather amall in the
course of n few years. — H’ilksboro
(N. G ) Chronicle.
"Personal Liberty” was a big thing
for the Anarchist to cry out; but they
didn’t hollow the kind of “Personal
Liberty” that the Texas “Personal
Liberty” brigade did during the re-
cent prohibition campaign. We
would call the attention of our es-
teemed contemporary to the line of
distinction. The Anarchists yelled
“Personal Liberty” for their lives,
while the antis during the prohibi-
tion campaign yelled "Peraonal Lib-
erty” for their whisky.

The dea.h of Mr. Howei E. Ford

many friends, all of whom deeply

God in nonce,
A COUNTY ENTERPRISE.
When a man comes in and paya up
his arrears and says: ‘ Take my name
off that book,” that signifies that that
man is a non-progressive kind of a
“thing,” he is lacking in county
pride; he had rather tear down than
build up, home institutions; he had
rather send to Dallas, Hi. Louis, or
Now York, for a paper; he wants to see
home institutions perisli and pine
away in insignificance, and make fat
and prosperous, the men und institu
tions of other countries and localities.
This kind of a citizen is a draw back
to any community. He is always
croaking and grumbling about Ilia
“hard times”—yelling 'oppression!”
"Capitalist are crushing us to death,"
etc., etc Inpluin English—he is a
perfect nuisance; disgusting in the
eyes of public spirited, live, energetic
men, who are trying to do something
for themselves tod working for the
betterment of their fellowinan. But
every school community; every
village; every town; every city; every
county; every state and every govern-
ment, under God's shining sun, lias
to carry a class of old emakers, who
are always and everlastingly kicking at
any steps of advancement nnd
progress. We want to ho thoroughly
understood in this statement: We
believe thut, with but very few excep-
tions, every free holder in Van Zandt
county is amply aide to take his coun-
ty cite paper. If you have a mind as
strong as' 11 jay bird, yon can see ut
once, that it is to your finanoial in-
terest; to your moral interest; to your
intellectual interest; to your social in-
terest and to your interest in every
particular to give your hearty support
and aid to it. Why? Simply lie-
cause we are striving to accomplish all
these results for yon, and withoutyoiir
aid; your co-operation; your assistance
and vour hearty support, our labors
would he seed sown ia sorry land and
productive of no good. We earnestly
appeal to every patron of the paper
to urgently request some otic to take
the paper. We want to pul a copy of
it in every home in Van Zandt coun-
ty, and by the aid of those who know
our heart's desire, wo will succeed.
Friends, remember this: That in this
work you are not directly working for
us, hut for your county. We are go-
ing to develop, or have the resources
of this comity developed, provided
wc get assistance. Wo are in the
field to stay gentlemen- and every
tanner who has lands for sale ; every
farmer who has Horses, mules, cattle
lings, sheep, goals, or anything else,
that he wishes to dispose of, it is to
his interest to surport* an institution
—such is Tiie Telephone that is
striving to find buyers for all this
property ; an agency that is enticing
a better class of immigration to our
country. We are for Van Zandt
county first, last and always. We
were horned nnd reared in Van Zandt
county—better known all over the
IJ. S. ns "Tho Free State of Van
Zandt.” We are not ashamed ol the
county and its people. We arc proud
that, we have sueli n grand and great
county ; we are proud that we have
a class of generous hearted, liberal,
intellectual social, religious, prosper-
ous, enterprising, energetic and
public spirited mliahtants. A man
that won't surpert home institutions
in preference to -foreign concerns
ought to he kicked out of the coun-
try. Tell him to go and live among
those wltfl he patronizes. He is an
eniniy to you ; to your country and
your prosperily. Perchance, lie may
lie a useful citizen to that communi-
ty if lie patronizes it as liberally ns he
does now. Raise and buy cverthi'ig
at homo you possibly can, it
matters not if it does cost n
little more, it pays in the end to do
it—and the cheapest is not always the
best: make it a point to keep every dol-
lar at home joii possibly can For a
few men fn do this you could not note
the n milt to he changed; hut if every
man would do it, you would see more
money in the country—and that is
what we are all striving for-tlieal-
iniglily dollar.
