The suggestive name, "Doctoring

the difficulty of obtaining them.

Train Robbers Surprised.
Train robbers in* Texas have so long
been accustomed to runn.ng things
their own way that the radical change
recently inaugurated by an express
messenger named J. E. Smith must
have been a great surprise to them.
Heretofore express messengers have
been In tbe habit of throwing up their
bands at the command of a train
robber, with an alacrity that made the
r. smile. No thought of attempting
to defend tho properly consigned to hi a
ear* seemed to enter the messenger's
head. That made th . robbers cur.■leu,
we suppose. Ou Ihe uigi.t of October
14 Messenger Smith was running from
El Paso to Situ Aitluuio. Tho train
stopped, pistol shots w.-re fired, and
when Smith turned down his light and
got down to see wlint was the matter,
the buccaneers of the rail ordcrod him
back to light up uguin.in order tofuoili-
ate the business of exploring the safe.
As the messenger was climbing tu his
hand dropped on th* handle ot a
revolver that lie had dropped o» the
floor of the cur iu itis haste, and turn-
ing ho dropped the robber in th* most
natural wuy in Use world. Then Its
proceeded to the comer of th* car and
picked up a shotgun which stood there
doing nothing at all, and with it pick-
ed off another robber who wnse.irelcss-
exposlng himself. Both robbers
were killed, nnd the rewards won by
Smith aggregate $A,800, which wasn’t
a bad nigbt’s work, for Smith.— Teaat
