Thief steals tractor parts
in fields near Clauene

A thief stole several motor
parts off a tractor west of Clau-
ene last week.
Deputy David Kinney went
to Joe Cookston’s property Sun-
day to investigate the theft. He
determined that someone was
dropped off at the road, that the
thief walked to the tractor, re-
moved several motor parts, hid

for awhile behind a tree and
then met a car on the road. The
suspect dropped a fuel pump
and cylinoid in a held where
they were later recovered. The
parts taken from the tractor
were valued at $910, according
to Kinney’s report.
While Kinney was speaking
with Cookston, John Douglas
Carr arrived and told Kinney
that someone had also stolen
three CB radios from three of
his tractors located 3 miles west
of Highway 385 on Farm Road
301. He estimated the radios
were valued at $500, Kinney
wrote in his report.
Driving class
slated at college
A one •* day defensive driv-
ing class is scheduled Saturday,
June 11, at South Plains Col-
lege.
Classes will meet at 8 a.m.
til 5 p.m. in SPC’s Petroleum
Technology Building, Room
115. Cost is $20 a person.
Formal registration is sched-
uled at 7:45 a.m.
Robert and Laurie Gutierrez
announce the birth of their
daughter, Roxanne Jeanette,
born at 8:10 a.m. June 2 in the
South Park Medical Center -
Leveiland.
She weighed 8 pounds 4 oun-
ces and was 20.5 inches long.
She has one brother, Robert
James, 6.
Her grandparents are Do-
mingo and Rdsa Gutierrez and
Bill and Janie Flores of Lamesa.
Her great-grandparents are
Jesse Esquivel of Whiteface and
Florentine Guajardo.

June 20 at South Plains College.
A series for students in the
10th through 12th grades, focus-
ing on math, science, creative
writing, and computers, is
scheduled Aug. 8-11.
Students will live on the SPC
which includes chemistry as it
relates to medicine, anatomy,
and physiology and the cardio-
vascular system; creative writ-
ing, focusing on short' stories,
play writing, poetry, and other
creative skills; and television
production and editing, in which
students will get hands-on ex-
perience in filming, editing, and
production of television pro-
an IBM computer lab concen-
trating on Lotus 1-2-3.
Cost is $250 per person,
which covers room and board,
educational materials, instruc-
tional costs, recreation, and
special activities.

swimming, tennis, jogging, rac-
quetball, and games in SPC’s

Participants will choose one
of four topics.
The series for seventh,
eighth, and ninth graders will
include mathematics, where
they will do research on mathe-
maticians who have made sig-
nificant contributions to the
field, compete in design con-

matics, whic ..icludes research
in the library, contests, and
advanced math and tautology;
science, which will cover chem-
istry with applied lab work and
demonstration, botany, with
field and lab microscopic study
of insect pests, anatomy, and
physiology, with emphasis on
the cardiovascular system; cre-
ative writing, focusing on writ-
ing short stories, poetry, and
plays; and computers, featuring

Breckenridge and formerly of

He died at 1:53 p.m. Tues-
day in his home. Justice of the
Peace Veva Ford ruled the death
due to natural causes.
He moved to Breckenridge
in 1987 from Sundown. He was a
World War II Army veteran and
a retired oilfield worker. He had
been employed by Sitton Drill-
ing.
Survivors include two sons,
Windon Ray of Grand Prairie
and Jeffrey Dale of Nevada; two
brothers, Boyce of Gorman and
Bill of Plano; four sisters, Treva
Holly of Breckenridge, Mrs.
Jakey Irish of Fort Stockton,
Yvonn Giddens of Mesa, Ariz.
and Patsy Lowe of San Antonio;
and six grandchildren.
