TEST IONS OF RABBITS.

Sunt for jack rabbits the other
day and 4397 of the animals
were made away with. The
total amount of meat procured
was not far from ten tons says
the IT. Y. Sunr and it was dis
tributed among the poor of
Denver and various otheF Towns
in Colorado by the Rev. Thomas
A. UzzhI pastor of the Peopled
Tanernacle of Denver. This
was ihp fifth animal rabbit
hunt at Lamar and is the ont-
growth of "Parson Tom's
i?ehfraer" as Mr. UzzePs idea in
galled. Mr. Uzzei wanted to do
something for every bodjr and
so hf got the Fanchers five years

Ranchmen were jjlad to do it.

COMMON SALT A
- LUXURY W ITALY.
Some queer commercial cus
tomi are found in Enrope as
well as America. An English
exchange says: "The Italian
salt monopoly is very injurious
in its effects according to Con
sul Neville Rolfe. It was pro-
posed recently to increase this
tax but the medical profession
rose in rebellion saying that
the tax as it stood was highly
detrimental to the public health
and that any increasa of it
would be unjustifiable so the
project was abandoned. The
retail price of the commonest
salt is forty c per kiln; of
kitchen salt sixty c; and of
table salt eighty c; and when
its aboundance in Italy is con-
sidered it vill be seen that the
monopoly must necessarily be
a very lucrative one. Table
salt is very nearly four pence
per English pound a price
which would startle our British
house keepers who are accus-
tomed to pay (quality for qual
itj) about eight pence a stone
for this necesfary of human
life. So strict is the law of this
salt monopoly that one may not
take a bucketful of water out
of the sea for a bath without an
official permit for fear one
should extract from it salt and
although the peasants use sea
water to make their bread they
may not take it without paying
a tax." -
