Duke Matlock, who resides
southwest of Cunningham, was
the victim of a very serious ac-
cident Christmas eve day. lie
with Jno. Murrell, had started
bird hunting. They were m&k
ing the trip horseback and it ap
pears that Mr. Matlock was car-
rying his gun, an automatic, by
resting the muzzle on his ankle
as he>ode along. In some way he
unconsciously worked the safety
off and in fingering the trigger
it went off. The load of No 7 1 2
chilled shot entered his ankle
and clme out at his heel.
After the gun fired he rode
some little distance before he
discovered that he was shot.
The nearest telephone was at
the home of Mr. Young’ two and
a half miles away. They made
for that place and summoned
physicians who removed the foot
and five inches of the leg. The
operation was performed at the
home of Mr. Young. Sunday
Mr. Matlock was removed to his
home, where Monday he was
reported to be restidg as well
as could be expected.

ty this week.
Dr. Roy Grayson was called to
see David Puckett, at the home
of Tucker Quinton. He was real
sick Saturday and Sunday.
Jno. Barton is at Bagwell this
week having his face treated for
cancer. He has three on his face
and they have been giving him
considerable pain the past week.

goods and good will to the
Hudson-Davis Co., of Dallas, and
the store was closed thefirstof the
week to invoice. Messrs. C. E.
Hudson and J. B. Ireson of Dal
las and Irving, arrived Monday.
Mr. Hudson returned to Dallas
Tuesday. Mr. Ireson comes here
from Irving, where he was man
ager of their store at that place.
A formal announcement of the
policy of the new people and a
short history of their business
will be found on the front page
of this issue. They are exper
ienced dry goods people, who
through close application to the
business, honorable dealing,
good merchandise, good service
and the use of printers iok, have
built up a string of stores in
several counties in North Texas.
As Mr. Ireson expressed it,
he is a man of a family consist
