Court gives nod to jail plans
It took an extra session, but the
l.avaca County Commissioners' Court
eventally okayed the floor plans for the
new jail at a special meeting Friday
morning.
Office space or a lack thereof pre-
vented the court from approving the
plans at its regular meeting Monday.
Jan. 13.
"We had a tremendous communi-
cation line concerning this project the
last few days,” Architect Wayne
Gondeck said. “1 got a lot of feedback
after Monday 's meeting and a lot of
progress was made in a short time "
The new design puts the Pct I ius-
tice of the peace office just inside the
front door of the building instead of
in the back comer but reduces the floor
space allotted the JP and the precinct
constable.
The adopted plan also give DPS
officers ample office space and a sepa-
rate work area for their secretary
Sheriff Robert W urm said he is sat-
isfied with the set up "We still have
to make room for a command outpost
in case of an emergency and room will
have to be set aside for a juvenile hold-
ing cell.” W urm said
Gondeck also w ent over the cost of
the facility with the court "1 can't
guarantee the cost but I have a good
idea of how things w ill come out and
where the budget is." he said
"I wanted to leave here today with
ev ery body on the same page." County
Judge Ronnie Leek said. "I think we
accomplished that."
The plans, which were approved by
the Jail Commission, can be viewed
by the public at the courthouse
