this city and belonging to R. F.
Eccles who resides in Concho
county caught fire and burned
to the ground before anyone
hardly knew it. The house was
Streetman Nominated.
After a stcjrmy session of five
days, Judge Sam Streetman was
nominated a l Waco for Judge of
the Court of Civil Appeals, Aug.
20th.
Streetman was nominated on
the 226th ballot. A tremendous
combination on the part of the
other candidates tried to unite
their forces and nominate one
of their members but failed. In
this campaign Streetman, though
only a
shown himself to be an organiser
of remarkable ability, as is prov-
en by his success in this issue
which has list closed.

S J. R. No. 3. JOINT RESOLUTION.
Amending Article 5, Section 2, of the Constitution of the State
of Texas requiring all persons subject to a p 11 tax to have paid a
poll tax and to hold a receipt for same before they offer to vote at
any election in this State and fixing the tim^ of payment of said
tax. |
Be IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OE THE STATE OE TEXAS:
Section 1. That Article 6 Section 2 of the Constitution of the State
of Texas be amended so as to hereafter read as follows:
Section 2. Every male person subject to nor
disqualifications, who shall have attained tht
years and who shall be a citizen of the Unit/l States
shall have resided in this state one year preceding an election and
the last six months within the district or county in which he offers
to vote, shall be deemed a qualified elector; an
of foreign birth subject to none of the foregoj^g disqualifications
who not less than six menths before any elecl
to vote, shall have declared his intention to bl
United States in accordance with the Federal
and shall have resided in this state one year next proceeding such
election and the last six months in the county in which he offers to
vote, shall also be deemed a qualified elector; and all electors shall
vote in the election precinct of their residence; provided, that
electors living in unorganized county may vote at any election pre-
cinct in the county to which such county is attached for judicial
purposes; and provided further, that any voter who is subject to
pay poll tax under the laws of the State of Texas shall have paid
said poll tax before he offers to vote at any election in this State
and hold a receipt showing his poll tax paid before the first day of
Februai y next preceding such election. Or if said voter shall
have lost or misplaced said tax receipt, he shall be entitled to vote
upon making affidavit before any officer authorized to administer
oaths that such tax receipt has been lost
made in writing and left with the judge

qualified voters of Texas at the next general election

them when you can get the best advant iges at less expense right here at Howard
Payne. There are no inferior teachers in our faculty. We have the best. Show
your appreciation of the efforts that have been and are being put forth to provide

feature of the entertainment was

him to move in at once. There
may be bigger hearted and more
generous people than live in
Ballinger but we have never met
them.
