Audit report on the 1998-
1999 school year was accepted
by trustees of Electra Inde-
pendent School District meeting
in regular session on Monday
night, Nov. 15, in the Adminis-
tration Building.
Mike Edgin of Mathis, West
and Hufllncs presented the
audit report to trustees noting
all accounting records were in
order, and a fund balance of
$785,000 at the close of the year
being audited.
Local policies for grade point
averaging, class ranking, stu-
dent scheduling and graduation
at Electra High School were
adopted on first reading. A sec-
ond approved reading is re-
quired for the policies to become
effective in the school district.
Section EED of the policy
pertains to student scheduling
and provides that beginning
with the 2000-2001 school year,
seniors will be scheduled for at
lest six classes (seven for an
eight period day), and students
in grades 9-11 will be scheduled
in a class each period.
Section EIC of the policy
provides that the highest rank-
ing senior student who has
completed at least the Recom-
mended Graduation Plan will
be valedictorian and the sec-
ond highest will be salutatorian.
This ranking will be determined
by an honor point system deter
mined by the average of honor
points a student has for grades
9, 10,. 11 and 12. Honor points
are given for advanced place-
ment courses and other courses
designated by the school district
board.
Second reading of the policies
is anticipated for the December
board meeting. Trustees Jannis
Ilayers, Kay Whisnand, Shawn
Matthews, Harry McAlister
and Gregg Williams voted in
favor of the first reading and
Trustee Buzz Boswell abstained
from the voting.
Trustees approved second read
ings of Update 61 and the PNF
Policy dealing with student
rights and responsibilities: in
terrogations and searches. They
also adopted a district gifted
and talented policy as well as
