The Rusk County Amateur Radio Club will
be participating in the American Radio Relay
League Field Day contest beginning 1 p.m.
Saturday and continuing for 24 hours.
Operators will have stations set up at the
Rusk County Office of Emergency Manage-
ment, located behind the courthouse along
North Van Buren Street.
This event is open to the public and is for
those interested in checking out emergency
communications in action as our operators
attempt to contact stations throughout North
America.
According to the ARRL Website, Field Day
is ham radio's open house.
Every June, more than 40,000 hams
throughout North America set up temporary
transmitting stations in public places to dem-
onstrate ham radio's science, skill and service
to our communities and our nation.
It combines public service, emergency pre-
paredness, community outreach, and techni-
cal skills all in a single event.
Field Day has been an annual event since
1933, and remains the most popular event in
ham radio.

Alec Johnson, a candidate for State Rep-
resentative announces the launch of his new
website.
"I’m delighted to debut our campaign’s
new website. It’s been a month in the mak-
ing,” Johnson said. “Elisabeth Webster and
her husband Stephen were delightful to work
with. We wanted to launch a website that was
accessible, informative, and engaging. It will
evolve in tandem with our campaign, full of
breaking news and up to date coverage of
events. We will strive to ensure that the web-
site serves the District 11 community as well
as the campaign. Your feedback will always be
welcome. Thanks for your continued support
and encouragement."

of May.
According to reports released Tuesday,
HPD saw a decrease in assault, criminal mis-

May and made 39 arrests. Calls for service
were up by 36 last month and arrests were
down compared to 52 made in April.
