Junior Achievement of Brazo-
ria County, received a grant of
$7,500 from State Farm.
This grant, in conjunction
with the volunteer involvement
of State Farm agents and af-
filiates, will help to provide JA’s
program to some of the most
vulnerable students in the coun-
ty. These programs encourage
students to stay in school, devel-
op skills to be successful in the
workplace, identify careers that
provide a comfortable living, in-
crease their self-esteem so they
realize they have the ability to
be successful,
Brazoria County WIC will
host its 6th Annual Fam-
ily Fitness and Nutrition Fair
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., March
14 at the Brazoria County Fair-
grounds, 901 S. Downing St.
in Angleton. The fair is free
and open to the public, rain or
shine. In addition to local nu-
trition and fitness profession-
als, the day will include food
demos, taste testings, Zumba,
hands-on activities for chil-
dren, an inflatable obstacle
course, blood pressure read-
ings, and more. For more in-

Brain Health Fair organizers looking for big turnout
Organizers of the third annu-
al Brain Health Fair at the Bra-
zoria County Fairgrounds are
betting that mechanical bull
rides, an Alzheimer’s Aware-
ness 5k Fun Run/Walk, tours of
the 18-foot MEGA Brain, and a
Country Store will attract more
families to the March 25 event.
“Our western-themed Brain
Health Fair will more than
double in size in 2017,” Dale
Libby, Brain Health Fair chair-
man, said. Activities will take
place in the Angleton Brazoria
County Fairgrounds Audito-
rium, Hall of Exhibits, and on
in the Hall of Exhibits provided
by Dr. Scott Rogers and friends,
Gathering Place Board mem-
ber Matt Edquist will serve as
auctioneer at the live auction.
Among the items that will be
up for bid are a four-man over-
night Hall’s Bayou Ranch Wild
Hog Hunt, a collector’s framed
Houston Oilers’ turkey towel,
and an original painting from
Cherie “Duckie” McBride of
Lake Jackson.
The Gathering Place, a
501C3 non-profit, is accepting
exhibitors and sponsorships for
the Brain Health Fair.

A Jazzercise routine, led by
Merie Abercrombie, a Lake
Jackson personal trainer, will
kick off the Health Fair in the
auditorium at 9 a.m., followed
by exercise instruction in the
Hall of Exhibits. Tai Chi, Sil-

dancing, yoga, and Jazzercise
demonstrations and lessons
will be offered in 30-minute
intervals until noon.
