“Most of the graffiti is person-
alized to give the appearance it
was done by members of a local
youth gang,” Arendell said.
The longtime Alvin police of-
ficer said even though there are
certain variety of gangs in Alvin
with varying levels of organiza-

“Our zero tolerance and pro-

Before the end of the year, the Texas De-
partment of Transportation has plans to
begin construction of medians along SH
6 in Alvin. Motorists who travel along this
stretch of highway should expect the con-
struction work to last about a year, according
to TxDOT.
“Medians will be constructed from FM
521 to southeast of Cemetery Road in Man-
vel, and medians will be constructed from
northwest of Brazos Street (2nd Street) in
Alvin to the southeast of County Road 142,”
said Danny Perez, TxDOT public informa-
tion officer.
He said the letting date (when bids go out)
is July and construction is expected to begin
approximately three months later.
“The current estimated construction cost
is $6.3 million and is scheduled to be com-
pleted in September 2017,” Perez said.
Michelle Segovia, Alvin’s city engineer
for 11 years, discussed this project with the
Alvin City Council during a workshop late
last year. It was only to inform them that the
city staff was working with TxDOT repre-
sentatives to make sure that comments re-
garding the project were addressed.
Segovia also said no city funds were being
spent on this road project.

The percentage of incidents
involving graffiti in the city is
minute as compared to other in-
cidents such as theft, burglaries,
even accidents that investigators
with the Alvin Police Depart-
ment tackle on a daily basis.
But it doesn’t mean graffiti
is less problematic and ignored,
said Capt. Todd Arendell, public
information officer with Alvin
PD.
In the past two months - De-
cember and January - APD
had documented six different
incidents of graffiti. Most of it
