Nothing like the Biennial Uni-
versity Interscholastic League
Realignment to get the unex-
pected juices flowing for high
school football coaches around
the state. In Alvin’s case, it
turned out to be a pleasant sur-
prise, though, as the Yellow-
jackets found themselves placed
in District 24-6A for at least the
next two years. Replacing Bra-
zoswood, Alvin will be reunited
with four Clear Creek Schools
(Creek, Lake, Brook, Springs)
and Dickinson with Clear Falls
and Friendswood also included
in the mix.
Alvin wasn’t the only school
moved from the 22-6A Pasa-
dena District as both Dawson
and Pearland took a shocking
posed to only two) will be good
and having our bye the week be-
fore district will be a good thing
too. It will be both something
new and fun.”

school and reducing the num-
bers, so I feel it’s going to be
a blessing in disguise. Our kids
are excited to be playing some
new faces and a few that Manvel
played a long time ago.
“None of kids remember that
but our coaches do when we
were in the 4A district that we
called the little Southwest Con-
ference. It was rough. But we
now got a chance to regroup and
start over from scratch.”
However, one thing Martin
won’t be changing is making
sure his team gets battle tested
during non-district play. The
Mavs are keeping North Shore
on the slate, while adding Cros-
by and rival Pearland.
“It will be important to get our
kids ready especially if we’re
going to be young and inexpe-
rienced,” the Mavs’ Coach said.

few really good teams and then
there were some at the bottom
that weren’t very good. I think
this district is going to be where
anybody can beat anybody on a
given night. I think we match up
with a lot of teams very good.”
While Alvin received stun-
ning news, Manvel went the ex-
pected route to 23-5A with Ga-
lena Park, Galveston Ball, Santa
Fe and Texas City. Fort Bend
Schools Elkins, Marshall and
Willowridge were thrown in as
a minor surprise to the setup as
well. New AISD School Shad-
ow Creek will compete in other
varsity sports in the district, but
is waiting to hear to about its
status for football.
“I think its awesome and it
gives us a fighting chance,”
Mavericks’ Head Coach Kirk
Martin said. “We’re splitting our
turn to 23-6A with the Alief
Schools (Elsik, Hastings, Tay-
lor) , B ’wood and George Ranch.
Most experts projected Alvin
to be the school headed west to
a district that included Ranch, a
forecast Jackets’ Head Football
Coach Robert Wilcox was glad
the UIL didn’t follow through
with.
“We were really surprised that
we went that (southeast) direc-
tion,” said Wilcox, whose non-
district slate includes Stratford,
Clements and Fort Bend Aus-
tin. “We weren’t anticipating it.
There were a couple of ideas that
we had. Either staying where we
were with an eight-team district
or going west.
“We’re excited about the new
district. It’s a good district for us
and an even one. The other dis-
trict was real top heavy with a
