Vrazel, Mikesky earn top grad honors at SHS
The top two graduates for the Schulenburg
High Class of 2015 were announced last week
at the Senior Scholarships and Secondary Aca-
demic Awards Banquet, held at the Schulenburg
Civic Center.
Mallory Vrazel posted a grade-point average
of 103.261 to earn valedictorian honors while
salutatorian Shannon Mikesky finished with a
GPA of 102.340.
In her four years of high school, Vrazel was
active inband, Student Council, National Honor
Society, UIL and FFA competitions, track and
cross country. She held many leadership posi-
tions, including president of Student Council
in her senior year. Among her community
volunteer efforts, Vrazel helped with campus
beautification, food drives, trimmed trees with
Hike for KaTREEna, and volunteered at various
fund-raising dinners, picnics, and galas.
Vrazel plans to attend Texas A&M University
and major in biomedical engineering. She stated
that she hopes to eventually make a lasting impact
on the medical world by working with imaging
machines, prosthetics, and artificial limbs.
Mikesky’s activities included volleyball,
basketball, tennis, band, National Honor So-
ciety, and UIL and FFA competitions. Among
her leadership positions, she served as NHS
president and was selected as team captain in
volleyball and basketball. In addition, Mikesky
volunteered at the Schulenburg Area Food Pan-
try, played with the band at the Marine Corps
balls and at Regency Nursing Home, as well as
helped with Hike for KaTREEna.
Mikesky will attend the University of Ala-
bama on an athletic scholarship for volleyball.
She plans on pursuing a master’s of accounting
degree and become a certified public accountant.
