The most important relation-
ship we will ever have is with
Christ Jesus, and then, our
spouse.
“Have you not read that He
who made them at the begin-
ning ‘made them male and fe-
male ’ and said, ‘For this reason
a man shall leave his father
and mother and be joined to
his wife, and the two shall be-
come one flesh’.“So then, they
are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined
together, let not man separate.”
Matt: 19:4-6
“For as a young man mar-
ries a virgin, So shall your sons
marry you; And as the bride-
groom rejoices over the bride,
So shall your God rejoice over
you.” Isaiah 62:5

hated his own flesh, but nour-
ishes and cherishes it, just as
the Lord does the church. For
we are members of His body,
else. They can’t fall short of
my expectations or disappoint
me. When I am receiving God’s
love, and abide in His love, be-
ing filled with His Holy Spirit
- I will be spiritually healthy
enough to recognize/help/en-
courage my own husband in
His relationship with God. And
together we can accomplish the
plans God has for us. (Again,
this is still a work in progress
in me.)
But how can this be possible?
Because instead of having atti-
tude I am filled with gratitude
for the love of Jesus. My iden-
tity is not in my physical hus-
band, but in Christ, and Christ
in me. This “he doesn’t love
me” “he forgot my birthday”
“he puts me down” “he watches
too much TV” “he doesn’t talk
to me” “he doesn’t care about
my feelings” is not born of God.
These thoughts are derived
from our fallen nature. That is
why we must be born again, be-
gotten of Love.
And instead of becoming
hurt, bitter, angry, cold-hearted,
your eyes are not focused on
yourself any more, the way they of His flesh and of His bones. ”
used to be, or the way the world Eph. 5:28-30
says we should be. A victim of
circumstance.
I am no longer a victim. Self
took me captive - captivated by
self. Jesus rescued me, from me.
So now my eyes can see oth-
ers the way God sees them, the
way He created them. Instead
of cursing and despising people
we can pray for them, love them
unconditionally. I should be
more concerned about my reac-
tion to others than what others
have done to me or not done to
me.
When did it become about me
again when it should be about
Christ living in me? No physi-
cal person can provide for our
spiritual needs.
After the fall of man, we be-
came desperate, needing love
and seeking the approval of oth-
ers. But there is a better way, to hearts of people are. But Jesus
be born again and become love.
If you know Jesus, you are
not just a child of God, but
part of the church, the body of
Christ, the bride of Christ. Mar-
riage = union.
“So husbands ought to love
their own wives as their own
bodies; he who loves his wife
loves himself. For no one ever

once a week to teach them pre-
literacy skills,” Pasarella said.
“The goal is to get the young
students excited about learning
and at the same time, provide
their parents with the tools and
strategies that will enable them
to work with their kids at home
on pre-literacy skills.”
Pasarella would be work-
ing closely with the Alvin ISD
Education Foundation to get
the pilot program started in the
spring.
Sheila Olson, who is direc-
tor of the Alvin ISD Education
Foundation, said she was very
pleased when the announcement
was made and hailed the efforts
Alvin ISD plans to make to as-
sist children and future students
in the community in the name of
education.
“The Alvin ISD Education
Foundation is so proud of this
partnership,” she said. “The
work the foundation does rais-
ing funds is for this reason, to
make a difference in our schools
and community.”

said in a news release.
Jenna Masters, executive
director of the United Way of
Brazoria County, said AISD’s
Education Foundation has
worked closely with the com-
munity it serves.
“We have four pillars: educa-
tion, income, health and basic
needs. All of our endeavors fo-
cus on those four pillars, but we
felt that we could further impact
the future of our community by
working with education foun-
dations,” Masters said. “With-
out that education piece, our
community cannot thrive.”
Alvin joined school districts
from Angleton, Brazosport, Co-
lumbia-Brazoria and Pearland
as recipients who divided up a
$50,000 grant.
Pasarella said there are going
to be some enhancements made
to the Book Bus operations next
year.
“In the spring of 2017, the Al-
vin ISD Book Bus will again go
out to visit the Alvin ISD neigh-
borhoods, but this time it will
offer a unique pilot program
targeted to the parents of pre-
school aged children who are
not yet in the school system,”
she said.
The age of the children tar-
geted would be 3-to-5 years
old, Pasarella said.
“The idea behind the program
is to use the Book Bus as a mo-
bile classroom where a teacher
will be able to meet with fu-
ture Alvin ISD kindergarten
students and with their parents

‘Selfies1 in marriage don't make a pretty picture
Our son is getting married
soon and the anticipation of this
beautiful event is building ex-
citement in our family.
I will admit that there was a
time I had a very negative at-
titude toward marriage. Most
of the marriages I saw did not
paint a pretty picture. It seemed
to me that there were only a
handful of couples who were
experiencing “Happily Ever Af-
ter” lives with each other.
But marriage is not old or
out-dated or wrong. It is our in-
terpretation of what the pattern
of marriage was created for that
has been perverted. The modern
version of marriage is self seek-
ing, self serving - the domina-
tion/preservation of self! There
is a direct attack on marriages.
But it’s an attack on the “cov-
enant” of marriage.
Years ago I heard an elderly
woman who had been married
for over 70 years sharing advice
on marriage. She said, “Give
100 percent and expect only 50
percent in return.” Now at the
time this sounded really good
to me.
But when I accepted the pro-
posal of Christ to be joined to
Him in the spirit, He showed me
a better way. In a Godly mar-
riage, dying to self daily, give
100 percent and expect noth-
ing in return; then I will never
be disappointed in someone

The Alvin Independent
School District’s Education
Foundation was one of five re-
cipients to receive a $10,000
grant from the United Way of
Brazoria County for the 2016-
17 school year, it was an-
nounced Sept. 6.
According to Alvin ISD, the
money will fund the Alvin ISD
Book Bus Summer Program by
purchasing additional books
and materials that would be put
in the hands of the Alvin ISD
students and families when the
Book Bus goes out during the
summer of 2017.
“Besides adding books to the
summer program, we are very
excited to be able to use this
grant to fund the start of a new
Literacy Readiness Program in
the spring of 2017,” said Ana
Pasarella, AISD’s family en-
gagement coordinator.
In a news release, the United
Way of Brazoria County said
the Book Bus provides reading
resources to students and their
families who may not have ac-
cess to literacy opportunities at
home, and those who may not
have transportation to public
and/or school libraries.
“The goal of the Book Bus is
to help close the achievement
gap that results from summer
reading loss and will enable
educators to continue building
relationships with students and
families by bringing fun reading
activities directly to them,” the
