FROM THE VOICE OF THE TRAPPER JULY 1984
-Joe Bambenek
10 Proving what is accept-
able unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship
with the unfruitful works of
darkness, but rather reprove
them.
12. For it is a shame even to
speak of those things which
are done of them in secret.
13. But all things that are
reproved are made manifest
by the light: for whatsoever
doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, A-
wake thou that sleepest, and
arise from the dead, and
Christ shall give thee light.

.... JULY is already half
gone, and has been rather
quiet in lhe valley..... lots of
hay-cutting activity and irri-
gation of summer crops
Dell Valley’s weather remains
very hot, at the 100- degree
mark for the past week or so,
and very dry the numerous
rain clouds and thundershowers
of a few weeks ago have disa-
appeared for the past week...
... the 4th of July didn’t live
up to its usual heavy rains for
the valley this year, but one
of these days, just one of these
days. while taking

The “bugs” may have been
worked out of the process to
protect food using low levels of
radiation, but bugs still remain
in the food, says a Texas A&M
University food scientist.
In reaction to recent con-
troversy over the use of irradi-
ation instead of pesticides like
ethylene dibromide (EDB) to
protect consumers from food-
destroying insects, Dr. E.E.
Bums pointed out the draw-
backs for killing insects with ir-
radiation is that no one has de-
veloped a process for removing
the bugs.
“Initial applications for ir-
radiation might be killing in-
sects in infested cereals and
employees for their work at the Community Building, both last
year and this year. This week the CETA workers and Junie will
be painting the inside of the community building. They have al-
age around the air-conditioners. They’ve done repairs on the air-
conditioners, worked on the bathrooms and will clean and treat
the floor. Last year, too, the CETA group and Junie did consi-
derable painting and cleanup to the building and grounds. Interesi
in getting the building in better shape has been growing, and we
hope that once it is repaired AGAIN, painted and cleaned up,
that all who use this building and attend functions in it will
respect it and take better care of it.
The James Lynches were delighted to have Peggy, Bonnie and
Linda home all at once this past week - and sorry that Peggy’s
husband, Bill, was unable to come. The Lynches are looking
forward to another every-two-year reunion in August on the
24-25-26 in Dell City.

We commend Junie Tavarez, School Custodian, and the CETA
employees for their work at the Community Building, both last
year and this year. This week the CETA workers and Junie will

Junie Tavarez and helpers....
not only are the grounds kept
in A-l condition, but inside

The HUDSPETH COUN-
TY FAIR is September 29-30
and October L this year's
theme is "THE WILD, WILD
WEST" should be easy
to make floats depicting the
theme if all businesses
and organizations, or anyone
would start thinking NOW about
a float, this year's parade could
set a precedence that would
make the fair parade an out-
standing event and a big high-
light of our fair and valley....
It's a once-a-year event, and
something we can all give of
our time and efforts for a few
days and how about a
booth or exhibit at the fair
building??. .... there are many
talented people in our whole
area, plan now to participate
in this year's fair.... we urge
and invite all communities and
areas to take part.

Joe Bambenek leaving cold and icy Minnesota after Thanksgiving
of '83 talks of moving south to Texas in this publication he
writes of several local citizens checking in at the sheepherder
bar in Dell City.... he tells.... "The sheepherder bar is owned
and operated by Bonnie Prather Larreau, daughter of my sheepher- .
der friend, Ed Prather, hence the name of the bar. Bonnie, a wo-
man in her early forties who has crammed about a hundred and
forty years into that forty-year-old frame, reminds me of Annie
Oaldey. A tough, hard woman (underneath about as hard as a
pound of butter... melted). She reminds me of a mother hen with
her chicks, who would fight to death to protect any one of her
brood. I call her friend... sure hate to be her enemy. An accom-
plished artist, an NTA member, and a very good coyote snarer,
she invites anyone to stop and visit when and if you are anywhere
close to Dell City. She knows everybody within a 100-mile radius,
and it's a good place to get tips on who'ihaving coyote trouble and.
how to find these places the people down there are
very friendly and helpful, and George and Ethyl Temple of Salt
Flat are not exception.., they had my one room cabin ready for me.
it took me about 8 hours to clear Des Moines, Iowa..... roads
were very icy and it was snowing hard, but you just have to allow fo
that and drive slower not only that, but I have a little secret
that helps me out on any trip. I take along a good co-pilot. I al-
ways ask Him to get me there safe and sound, and He's been 100%
perfect so far. Can't beat a record like that. Think I'll stick with
Him I visited with Ed Prather, an old sheepherder
friend I had met a couple years ago a very down to earth
gentleman picked up all traps the 3rd of February and the
next day left for El Paso to pick up my wife at the airport. HAPPY
DAY!!!... .we spent one day at the Carlsbad Caverns, What a
spectacle of natural beauty.... if you are anywhere close to it
put it on your must list.... it's well worth the time to see.... well,
as everything has a beginning, it also has an ending and on February
10th my Texas trapping vacation came to an end and we headed
home.... as we were trucking down the road you can be sure other
wheels were spinning on whatl can do to make next year even bette
.... this one will be hard to top"-Joe Bambenek, Winona, MN.
