We thank Mary for classing
Mr. W. and myself in the
"writers" class, and it en-
courages us to go ahead with
a project which could, if ac-
cepted, be really beneficial
to us.
1 large onion, chopped
2 cans (4-oz.) chopped
green chiles
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cups cooked chicken,
shredded
1 teaspoon salt
12 com tortillas
vegetable oil or fat for
frying
1/2 pound Cheddar cheese,
grated
1/2 pint (8-ozs) sour cream
1 large tomato diced
lettuce, shredded
Select ripe, firm, unblemished peaches. Wipe away fuzz with a
coarse towel. Combine sugar and water in saucepan and stir over
low heat until it makes a thick syrup. Add cloves. Simmer peaches in
syrup 5 minutes. Drain and place peaches in hot sterile jars. Pour 2
tablespoons brandy into each jar. Remove cloves and pour syrup
over fruit, filling within one-half inch of top. Seal and process in
boiling water bath 15 minutes. Store in a cool dark place three
months before using. Makes six 6-ounce jars.

Ruby Lewis spent most of last week in Carlsbad, returning home
only on Satunlay morning. Aunt Opal had gone on over earlier
and was visiting with their sisters, Jewel, Jesse and Josephine -
they spent the 4th with Jewel. Ruby, Jewel and Aunt Opal visit-
ed with Granny Emma Lewis and she seemed to be doing real
well and was so happy to see them. Josephine picked Granny up
and they all attended a Bar-B-Que on the 4th. Minerva came
for Aunt Opal and took her home for a visit with D.F. and herselL
Nancy, Kearney Lewis and Ronnie & Jeremy are visiting Nancy’s
sister & family in Midland, and when I called over to Andy’s, he
said Nora Lea had gone out to water Nancy’s flowers Saturday.
Nora Lea visited with us Friday morning - first time she’d been
over in some time and we had such "a good-old-talking11 visit.
Ste and^Andy will be going to Carlsbad Monday morning early

Son John and wife Joan with Cody and a grandson Scott Jones
came out to see us Saturday. They had stopped at White's City
and Cody took Scott through the Caverns so it was late when they
arrived here. Joan brought me some apricots she had canned,
and I will make them up in to jams and jelly. Homemade sweets
are so good. They always bring som ething nice - as Jean and
Euman do also. They left pretty soon after breakfast Sunday
morning, but it was wonderful to have them for even so short a
visit.

Thursday P.M. Mr. W. and I went by the Roger Owen’s and picked
up Krtad to take to the Brouze-a-Bit Shop, for some crochet in-
structions. She seemed to like to learn it and Mis. Moseley is
an excellent teachen We can’t see them again Monday as they
will be in Roswell - on radio being on a talk show with the
Kriegs. We're so happy for them.
There are 2 special farms between us and Dell City that we al-
ways comment upon as we pass on our way in to Dell City: the
Roger Owen for Linclon County Land & Cattle Company, and the
Arnold Zambrano farm nearer Dell City. They are so beautifully
kept.
Saute onion and chiles light-
ly in oiL Add chicken and
salt and heat thoroughly. Fill
the center of each tortilla
with mixture and roll into a
tight tube. Fry in deep fat,
a few at a time, until lightly
browned. Serve with sour

tomatoes. Serves 4
IT’S A SUPER SEASON for peaches in Texas where
a dry growing season has produced a sweeter-than-
usual peach. Though fresh peaches will be on the
wane by August, the season can be extended by
buying fruit in bulk and freezing or canning it.
Brandied Peaches put up today will make your
guests' mouths water when you serve them at
Christmas.

CROW FLAT
INA WARREN
Most of the past week clear - although some wind - temperatures
around 100 degrees. I insist that the heat doesn't usually bother
me, but I missed the airconditioner when the electricity was off.
Last Sunday evening Mr, W. and I went over to Kitty and Roger's,
at their invitation, to see the movie "Fire on the Mountain". Ed
Prather was also over, and we all enjoyed the story. Ed could
tell us more about it, too.
Our Tuesday's visitors of last week were Jean and Euman, bring-
ing their artist son Charles, his wife Evelyn and little sons Chris
and Carey. They got over pretty early, driving a "super" new
van, but couldn't stay over night as we had hoped. They brought
some new painting instruction books - one on Tole Painting, and
I will take a few in to Mary's office Monday. Mr. W. took
Charles and Carey to Dell City with him for ice cream.
That was the evening the electricity was off - and we were ex-
pecting Mrs. Fuentes, and son Armando with his wife Maria and
baby Raymundo, We have a lanturn and some lamps - the wicks
were not usuable on the lamps but when we called over to Shir-
ley's to see if they had any kerosene, she insisted on sending
Kayla over with some - they're such dear, thoughtful neighbors!
So we enjoyed our company by lantern light. The baby boy is
growing so fast - and is adorable.

I think most of Crow Flat went over to Comudas for the 4th. The
Joneses, the Andy and Kearney Lewises, Cathy's family, Evelyn's.
I called over to John Schafer's to see if they went. The girls did
and enjoyed it, but of course Jane is still on the World Tour with
Cordelia, and was probably in Paris, France that day. That was
such a wonderful thing to happen and the CowBelles will expect
to hear all about it when she returns. Lois Bennett and I were 2
CowBelles who didn't get to go. The CowBelle Annual Finnic is
the 14th.

I had the nicest note recently from Bernadette Carr of Fort Stock-
ton, written on a few pages taken from "Texas Techsan", the
Tech newspaper. It contained the story - with a picture we didn't
get - of Lisa and Kay Caddel, the dressmaker who designed and
made Lisa's beautiful wedding dress. Incidentally, Lisa was
majoring in journalism at Tech at the time and was' on the news-
paper staff. Thanks so much "Bernie" for your thoughtfulness,
we appreciate it so very much. I also appreciate very much your
comment of: "I enjoy your column".

When I worked in the Co. judge's office in Matador, Texas for
Judge W.R. Cammack, a grand snow-white-headed dear old
gentleman, he was teacher
of the Men's Bible Class, Bap-
tist Church. Their motto:
Every man preaches his own
funeral, writes his own obitu-
ary, and seals his own destiny,
as he lives. "Yom? presence
cheers and leads us on , But
a vacant chair is most forlorn."

Lisa and Gary called us Sun-
day - we were expecting them
to be with us on their 2 weeks
vacation beginning 16th, but
they tell us, tearfully, that
they won't be able to make
the tripw Boston is a long way
off, and since Me, W. nor I
have ever traveled by air, we
did not realize what it would
cost them to make the 2—way
trip They told us of a "Little
People" friend of theirs who
lives in an adjoining state and
is a Presbyterian minister.
He is not married, and is plan-
ning to visit with them soon.
He could not afford to attend
the annual meeting of LPA
(Little People's Association)
in St, Louis this year, and
neither could they, so we are
glad they can get together^
Lisa is still employed at the
telephone office as clerk
typist, and Gary in the field
of electronics.
