In observing the date of the Yahrzeit
of your loved one, it is customary to
kindle a light at sundown of the day
before the Yahrzeit. This light should
burn for 24 hours.
You should attend daily services
which are held at our Orthodox Synag-
ogue, Chartres at Clay, on the eve and
on the day of your Yahrzeit, at which
time Kaddish may be said. You are
invited to attend services Friday even-
ing at 8 p. m. at our Synagogue, Craw-
ford at Lamar, at which time the name
of your departed will be mentioned in
the course of the service.
It is also traditional among our people
to contribute on the Yahrzeit in me-
mory of those we love. This contribu-
tion is entirely voluntary, as is the a-
mount, and may be made to any fund
that you desire. We suggest, however,
the flower fund which goes to decorate
the pulpit every Friday evening and
Sabbath morning.
PLEASE NOTE: You may purchase
a permanent Yahrzeit light made
in the form of an electric bulb with
a beautiful Star of David enclosed
which you can use for all Yahrzeits.
It may be purchased by calling La-
zar Goldberg, our Executive Di-
rector at F. 5128.
The proceeds will go towards the
Religious School Fund of our Con-
gregation.
We extend our deepest sym-
pathy in their sad bereave-
ment, to the families of:
HERMAN DAVIS
HYMAN EDELSTEIN
SANFORD ELIOT PRENSKY
May their memory be a
blessing!
January 25th is the date of the
first Bingo Party, sponsored by
the Beth Yeshurun Men’s Club, at
Montefiore Hall, Crawford and La-
mar.
Starting at 6:30 p. m., a kosher
spaghetti and meat ball dinner will
be served, free of charge, to mem-
bers and their friends. Bingo will
start at 7:30 and will be played
throughout the evening. Proceeds
from the Bingo games will be used
for the Men’s Club Educational
Fund. The committee in charge of
this affair consists of Eddie Bor-
master, Sol Rose, Dave Rubin, Mor-
ris M. Molof, Sparky Levine, Jul-
ius Kaufman, and Saul B. Lieber-
man. The women in charge of the
dinner are Mesdames I. Dushkin,
Dora Simon and Nathan Perel.
Happy Birthday to you—is the song
we sing to RUTH WIESENTHAL, one
of our Sunday School teachers who just
passed her 19th birthday . . . Engage-
ments are the order of the day. The
latest announcements, which we take
pride in announcing, are: YETTA LEE
LAUFMAN to MARVIN GREEN, of
Jamaica, New York (our Rabbi’s home
town); and ELAINE LUBEL to SAM-
MY MAYER. Elaine’s father is the very
popular JACK LUBEL, whose bass
voice can be heard in the Beth Yesh-
urun Choir ... To the following famil-
ies we extend our best wishes on their
recent additions: MR. AND MRS. H.
GOLDBERG—a boy; MR. AND MRS.
H. S. ISENBERG,—a boy; MR. AND
MRS. L. ROSENBERG—a boy; MR.
AND MRS. B. COHN—a girl; MR. AND
MRS. S. S. SCHWARTZ—a boy; and,
MR. AND MRS. STANLEY FLEISCH-
MAN —a girl. (Incidentally, this is
Mr. and Mrs. Morris H. Cohen’s first
grandchild and th e y certainly have
reason to be proud). . . . Our congratu-
lations and best wishes to all the above
and also to IRVING WISHNOW, new-
ly elected President of AZA Chapter
136 .. . Our heartiest welcome to MRS.
JACOB LEVIN and children, RAPHAEL
and AMI, who have just moved to Hous-
ton. We also want to wish MR. AND
MRS. JACOB LEVIN a very happy twen
ty second wedding anniversary ... We
would like to take this opportunity to
correct an item in the “Beth Yeshurun
Family” of the last issue of “The Mes-
sage,” regarding the engagement of
IDELLE CAROL DAVIS. Miss Davis is
engaged to GEORGE ERWIN HUSID
of Brooklyn, New York. Idelle is the
daughter of MR. AND MRS. A. DAVIS.
We sincerely hope that all concerned
will forgive our error. . . . Our congratu-
lations to MR. AND MRS. ABE CHAS-
KIN, whose son, SAMUEL is becoming
Bar Mitzvah this Sabbath. Sam is a
fourth generation member of Beth Yesh-
urun a great grandson of MEYER
MENDLOVITZ, one of our most fam-
ous pioneers . . .
