John Lane and family, Ann, Johnny and
Ricky took several days leave from their gro-
cery store at Rocking V Village and visited
friends and relatives in Roswell, N. Mex.
Stopping over in Juarez on the way home to
see the dog races. Instead of the cloud with
a silver lining this cloud had a dark lining

We are real glad to meet and welcome Mabel
Gilly as the new owner of Chris Country Store
on Ranch Road 1431 near Jonestown.
We are so sorry to report that the baby of Mr.
and Mrs. Marvin Chamberlain is in Galveston
again for surgery. She will be there for at
least three weeks. Time of surgery has not
been set.
John Wayne Roberts and Buddy went to Har-
lingen to visit Buddy's mother and went hunt-
ing. I heard they found a wild hog. Probably
they could tell a good hog story.
Warner Schelfaks from Trail's End have moved
to their new home at Jonah.
Mrs. Jack Baker is visiting Mrs. Johnie Fis—
weekend visiting the Big Cat, The Bam and a
sing along at Rocking V. Jul said she proved
to them that the lake area had something on
the ball as well as Big D.
Ticket sales for the drawing at the Volente
Fire Hall July 1st for half a beef and deep
freeze are going good. This project will help
raise maoney to maintain the Volunteer Fire
Dept, trucks and equipment. So when vou
have an opportunity to buy a ticket grab a
few extra ones then you will not only help the
fire department, but you may be lucky and
win 250 lbs. of beef, cut and wrapped to your way Ladies played in the Kingsland

Jonestown Mrs. R. C. Jones
Mrs. Ella Garner reported that the Ladies
Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 6795 of Jonestown,
had their regular meeting June 13, 1972.
Their next meeting will be Tuesday night June
27th, 8 P.M. Men are also having their
meeting. New members are always welcome.
Mrs. Georgia Pearson has moved back to
Jonestown. Welcome Home. She has been
living in Austin.

There is a meeting scheduled June 20th atthe

we can have a doctor in our community if we
will all work together and help. If there was

than this I don't know what it could be. This
meeting is for that business. The community is

News from the Warm Springs Children's Hos-
pital in Gonzales looks better each week as
Ouida brings reports of Johnathan Dearings
progress. She says each time she goes there

gaining weight.
Mrs. C. O. Davis, better known is these

from a most enjoyable trip to Las Vegas,
Nevada, Bull Head, Arizona, Boulder Dam,
Nwwdles, California and best of all she visit-
ed Havasu City, Arizona to see the famous
London Bridge and lunch in the English Pub.
She was accompanied by her sister and niece.
Several ladies of Volente are interested in
having an art class for beginners this summer
so they have prevailed on Carl eta Carter to
teach. Anyone who is interested in attend-
ing these classes can call Carl eta at 258-1193

the side of a barn she can teach you.
We regret to report that Delbert Hill died in
Brackenridge Hospital Sunday night after a
long battle to overcome injuries he received
in a car wreck April 13. He had been in in-
tensive care since then. We shall all miss
him very much. His friendliness and warmth help keep th

moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in July 1

Bill Broaddus came home Saturday on leave
from his job with an Oil Company involved ■
in off-shore drilling. Bill's rig is anchored
80 miles off shore in the Gulf of Mexico.
Scott and Pickie have been anxious to talk
with him as this is his first trip home since he I

Winners for June 6 th was the team of
Jan Smith, Laveren Phinney and Mary
Catherine Butterfield. The 9-hole win-
ner was Hilda Boone.
On Wednesday on June 7th several Lake- her from Mississippi.
The singing school at Travis Peak came to a
close the 16th. The report was the best one
yet. About eighty enrolled for the school.
There were students from twelve states taking
part.
1st Flight Our hearts were made sad with the passing of
Mrs. Tanny Varner of Travis Peak. She was
buried last Sunday as a week ago June 11.
All who knew her loved her and she will be
missed by so many.
Mrs. R. C. Jones was called to the bedside
of her sister, Mrs. A. J. Rainwater of Ralls,
Texas on Wednesday June 7. She had surgery
in Lubbock. There is nothing they can do for
her except to try to make her as comfortable
as possible. She has cancer. The doctor said
it was only a matter of time I
Mr. J. D. Singleton of Travis Peak was on the
sick list but is better now.
The W. B. Simmons and children saw some of
the beautiful things of our good old U.S.A.
They went to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah,
and Arizona. While we were sizzling in the
heat they were having a snow ball fight in
the mountains of Colorado.
