| We often wonder why it is so
II many young men can be seen loaf
| ing upon our streets until a late
m hour at nigbt. Many of them are
| from our best homes. The fathers
HI of these young men, many of them
| at least^ltre numbered among
H our best citiaens. If their cow
N or their horse or even their favor
u ite dog was away from home af-
| ter dark they would be out on a
| i search, but their own children
can roam the town all night with
apparently no effort being made
to.find them* The boy seems to
be turned loose at a tender age
to wander at will into the paths of
sin and vice and then ’we wonder
where all our tramps and worth-
Ip less specimens of humanity come
I from. It Js a regretable fact
R that too many of them come from
II seed germinated in fcood homes
I and then sown in a careless man-
■ ner upon our streets and back
alleys. Reader, is your boy wast-
ing his time upon our streets? If
so bad you not better, at least,
look after him as carefully’
at nightfall as you would your
horse and cow. We do not inti-
mate! that this evil exists to a
greater extent in this community
than in our sister towns, but the
evil seems universal and increas-
es in magnitude as the years roll

It ja not easy to learn to keep
a household account book all at
• once. A young husband gave his
wife a neat little account book
prettily bound and designed to
be inviting in appearance. He
also gave her fifty dollars, and
said: “I want you to put down
what I give you on this side, and
on the other write down the way
it goes, and in two weeks I will
give you another supply.” Two
weeks later he asked for the
book. "Ob, I have kept that ac-
count,” said the young matron;
“here it is.” And on one page
was inscribed: “Received from
Fred fifty dollars,” andon the
t opposite was. this summary,
» “Spent it all.”
