PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS RED CARPET
Tomorrow begins the Regional Meeting of the Progressive National Baptist Convention here in
Houston. Your church is the host church! This is the churches in the Convention who are west
of the Mississippi — about 300-400 delegates would come to the regional meeting at the
downtown Hyatt Regency. And we have to roll out the red carpet for them. We will put on the
opening night musical tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at the Hyatt, with about 300 Houston singers
from Houston churches under the leadership of Juanita Nash, Michael McKay, and Theola
Booker. You ought to buy a ticket for $5.00, and you ought to bring your friends. But most of
all, please be available to Host Committee Chairman Bill Solomon if he needs to call on you to
help make the PNBC delegates feel at home in Houston! More details elsewhere in this bulletin.
"THANKS,” A LITTLE WORD FOR BIG DEEDS
(1) For the hard work of scores of people that made our Vacation Bible School another
winner; for the leadership of Linda Wesley and her executive team; for the broad support of
parents who brought their children or teenagers and stayed to study the word; for the clear
presence and power of the Holy Spirit in one of the most inspiring events of the 1992-93 church
year, we thank you, and we thank God.
(2) For the incredible pouring out of love for the pastor last Sunday on Father’s Day/the eve of
his 65th birthday (which is tomorrow, June 28), and for all the work that must have gone into that
outpouring — even for the lies and deceit and chicanery to which you resorted in order to carry it
all off, we thank you, and we thank God.
(3) For the magnificent spectacle of nineteen boys going through the "passage" from boyhood
to manhood in the Rites of Passage graduation last Sunday evening; for the stellar leadership of
Obas Dwayne Bilton and Olu Chapman; for the solid teamsmanship of Elders, Mentors, parents
and families that produced those nineteen achievements, we thank you, and we thank God. LAST
WEEKEND WAS A GREAT WEEKEND — now we can stand a problem or two.
