SISTERS PLEDGE TO STAY TOGETHER
Wheeler moves in two directions at 11:00 today. The Rector of our sister church, Trinity
Episcopal Church, the Rev. Stephen Bancroft, has been promoted Dean of the Cathedral
of Detroit, and leaves in two weeks. So for the last time while he is in the Trinity pulpit,
Wheeler goes with pastor and choir to (1) bid Steve Godspeed, and (2) assure Trinity that
Wheeler still intends to worship, fellowship, and do community service with her. Pray for
Steve, Margaret, and the children; and for Trinity Episcopal as she adjusts.
SO YOU HAD ’CHU’CH’!
Last Sunday we missed it. We heard about it. Associate Pastor Roosevelt Rudy' Howard
ripped the pews from their anchorings, smashed the big picture window, and popped the
rivets out of 80% of the steel girders. Thank you, Rudy, for being a strong and effective
partner in our shepherding team. Maurice Carr and I bring you greetings from a young
sister church in Tampa, Florida, celebrating their first anniversary last Sunday. You would
have been proud of your Chairman, too. He was not just a silent guest at True Faith
Inspirational Baptist Church. He was a powerful spokesman for our team system of
church administration, especially the cells we call Family Groups.’ Pastor John Giles
gathered all the men of the church following the afternoon Anniversary Service, and
Maurice shared with them the things we have learned in our thirty-three years at Wheeler.

Tophas, how can I in good conscience praise two Omegas?
TODAY THE HOLY SPIRIT REMINDS US OF OUR PURPOSE
This is the third of four months in our church year with five Sundays. Every fifth Sunday
we emphasize the central purpose of the church of Jesus Christ -- missions and
evangelism. We celebrate today because our General Mission President, Brenda
Roberson, was just named last month as Branch Manager of the new Griggs Road Branch
of Bank of America. And we welcome to the pulpit today two stalwarts in the mission of
the church: Dr. John Byrd, Dean of Houston Bible Institute; and Rev. Buddy Gee,
Chaplain in the Harris County Jail System. Our Jail and Prison Ministry is the host
ministry today, and our 11:00 pulpit Deacons have become expert in distributing $10 bills
for the commissary (inmate spending fund) of those incarcerated in Harris County Jail. In
case you thought your primary purpose under God was to attend Sunday worship
services, our General Mission, its ministries, and our pulpit guests today stopped by to
correct you, and to let you know God needs your time, talents, and money in a much more
aggressive witness to the community and to the world.
