STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—Dr.
M. E. John, rural sociologist at
Pennsylvania State Colege, has
discoverer an apparent relation-
ship between price movements and
the divoive rate.
When prices rose from 1914 to
1920, Dr. John says, the divorce
rate per 100,000 persons in the
United States advanced from 110
to 100.
During the ensuing depression
the rate fell to 128, but when
prices increased, from 1932 to
1935, the rate jhinped to 171.
Most persons can’t afford di-
vorces during hard times, Dr.
John heli' ves, although he thinks
that financial problems have a
tendency to bring husbands and
wives into closer harmony.

delayed in
Detroit almost a week because of
being unable to get a 1941 model
car. When they arrived there
they were told that production
on the new model cars had not
yet started. Two days after pro-
duction started they had their
car delivered at their hotel
rejoicing.
This was their fii-st
through the east and they
delighted by the general outlook
and scenery.
Dr. Kopecky attended a
day session of the annual
vent ion of the Veterans of For-
eign Wars, at Detroit.
At Washington they were
guests of Congressman Mansfield
and of Wright Patman, both of
whom showed them every cour-
tesy jxissible and made their stay
in Washington both interesting
and pleasant.
