REPORT MEN ARE
LEAVING CITY TO
LIVE ELSEWHERE
From your easy chair you read the offerings, compare
values, check the statements against your previous ex-
perience and then make your selections.
News columns give you items of interest in the political,
financial and social worlds. Advertising columns give
you information just as interesting, and even more
valuable to you—news of the things that have to do with
your personal, every-day life.
Thus you save time, money and the effort spent in
useless “shopping around.” And you gain in the satis-
faction that comes from a purchase well made. Keep up *
on the shopping news.
The advertisements spread out for your inspection the
products of progressive manufacturers the country over
—the comforts and conveniences that play so large a
part in modem life. The wares of every progressive
merchant in town are laid attractively before you.

eles? (Malarial Mosquitoes)
Yes. The anopheles larve lies at
the top of the water and parallel to
it, for all the world like a basking
pike. The larvae of other mosquitoes
hang from the top, head downwara.
If the later touched, while it may divs
it will generally “scoot” backwards
along the top of the water. They are
not a bit alike, and once seen no one
will ever mistake one for the other.
Is it important to recognize the lar-
vae of Anopheles?
Yes; it is far more important to
recognize the larvae of Anopheles
than the mosquitoes themselves, be-
cause this enables us to find their
breeding places and hence to destroy
them.
In what kind of places do Anopheles
breed ?
They prefer to breed in clean wat-
er, in small, shallow, shady pools with
grassy edges; if with grass growing
in them so much the better. A mar-
shy piece of ground with many small
pools, among bullrushes and sedge, is
an ideal place. The grassy edges ano
quite pools formed by obstruction on
small streams are also favorite places,
as are cattle tracks. They have no
objection to running water unless run-
ning swiftly. Some species breed well
in large ponds.
- Do they breed in such places only?
They occassionaly breed in almost
any collection of water, unless it >e
very foul; shallow wells, water bar-
rels, tin cans, etc., especially if they
have leaves or grass in them or the
green algae "frog moss.” Generally
however, they avoid barrels, cans and
other artificial containers unless they
have grass. moss, etc. in them.
How long must a pool last to breed
A nopheles ?
Since it takes usually about 14 days
for the egg to produce the mosquito,
if a collection of water dries up com-
pletely in less than 14 days, it is not
likely to breed Anopheles mosquitoes.
The general range of potato prices
