of the last legislature. Ig-
norance of the law is not ex-
cusable, and it is for the bene-
fit of those who would violate
the law that The News prints
the above, with the hope of
keeping some mother’s son
out of serious trouble. It is
mighty bad practice and those
who indulge in it not only
endanger their own lives but
the lives of women and chil-
dren who happen to be using
the highways and are entited
to the protection of the law
against intoxicated jov riders.

Drunken Auto Drivers
Subject to Heavy Penalty
Several complaints have re-
cently come to The News to
the effect that a band of
youngsters about Lufkin, and
perhaps some from other
places, have proceeded to
“tank up” on shinney to the
point of intoxication and then
go out for a joy ride on the
highways in an intoxicated
condition, even taking in i
towns of adjoining counties
and putting on a show. The
News does not know these
things to be facts, other than
as stated to the management
of this paper but we have been
asked to call attention to the
law passed by the last legis-
lature bearing on this particu-
lar subject, which is as fol-
lows:
“An act making it a felony j
to drive an automobile or oth-
er motor driven vehicle upon
the streets of any incorporat-
ed city, town or 'ill gre or
upon the public highvay
while the driver is under ; e
influence of intoxicating ii-
qur, prescribing the punish-
ment for such violation repeal- '
ing Section 13, Chapter 207, ‘
page 477, of the regular ses- (
sion, thirty-fifth legislature, in
conflict herewith, and declar-
ing an emergency.
