Austin, Tex„ April 4. Worthy
ami deserving students at the
University of Texas, or students
desiring to enter the University
have access to many scholarships
and loan funds established for
the purpose of aiding such stu-
dents as might otherwise find it
difficult, to obtain a University
education. Some of the funds
are for students in certain de-
partments, some are limited to
juniors and seniors, while others
are available to prospective stu-
dents who would not otherwise
be able to enter college. The in-
terest charged is at a low rate.
Some of the leading ex-students
of the state have been enabled
through these funds to receive or
complete their college training
in the University of Texas.
In the Law School there is a
fund which assists worthy stu-
dents during their last two years.
There is also the Brackenridge
Loan Fund for women students
in architecture, law and medi-
cine, established by George W.
Brackenridge of San Antonio. Of
the loans available, six may be
held in the Department of archi-
tecture, five in the Law School,
and nine in the School of Medi-
cine. The loans are made by a
committee appointed by the
founder of the fund. A loan
fund in the Department of Home
Economics is being founded at
the present time by the Home
Economics Club. The students
of the College of Engineering
have established a fund from
which loans are made on security
to worthy juniors and seniors
who have a reasonable chance of
graduating with their classes.
The Sidney Lanier Literary
Society has established a loan
fund the purpose of which is to
aid capable women students who
wish to attend the University
but have not sufficient means.
This fund is accumulated from
donations of the alumnae and
from proceeds of entertainments
given by the society. A similar
fund is now being established by
the Reagan Literary Society. The
Students’ Clipping Bureau of the
University has also established a
fund, increased annually to the
amount of the surplus proceeds
cf the Bureau, from which loans
will be made to women students
of journalism. Another fund has
been contributed by Cullen F.
Thomas of Dallas, and is open to
any deserving student.
In addition, there are a num-
ber of memorial loan funds. I
available under varying condi-
tions. Included in this number
are: The Bothwell Bierce Loan
Scholarship, for students prepar-
ing for the ministry or foreign
mission work; the George W.
Allen loan fund, from which
award may be made to either
young men or women of Jones
county; the John H. Houghton
memorial fund, available for one
student from Jim Hogg county
each year; the Carl Stone Bene
diet scholarship and loan fund,
available to male students, pre-
ference being given to sophomor-
es; the J. E. Whiteselle Navarro
County Students’ Fund; the Bil-

fund, for women students of
journalism; the William L
