that I have been confined to my
room for the past twenty days
and have been unable to prose-
cute my campaign for the nomi-
nation for the office of District
Clerk as I would .’ike to do. I
am now under treatment of a
physician and hope to be able to
get out and make a thorough
house-to-house canvas of the
county as near as possible, but
in the event I do not sufficiently
recover to do this I will greatly
appreciate the vote and support

Prof. A. S. Dale of Nashville,
Tenn., mid Miss Velma Johnston
were united in marriage at the
home of the bride’s mother,
Mrs. M. F. Johns con’s .in this
city, Rev. M. L. Sheppard,
pastor of the Baptist church
here, officiating. The wedding
was a quiet affair and the
contracting parties left on the
2:40 north"’bound Cotton Belt
passenger for Nashville, Tonn.,
where they will make their
home.
The bride is one of Gilmer’s
most beautiful and accomplished
young ladies and has taught
literary schools st several
places. In Upshur and Wood
counties. — !
The groom is a graduate of
the Peabody Normal and is at
present teacher of Natural
Science, French and History in
Montgomery Bell Academy at
Nashville. He has accepted the
position for another year.
I hereby call a meeting of all
__ party prohibitionists of Upshur
old with the end of the right county, to convene at the court
‘ house in Gilmer on Saturday,
June the 4th, at 1 o’clock p. m.
for the purpose of organizing the
prohibitionists of every voting
precinct in the county, and to
take the necessary steps to have
Upshur county represented in
the State Prohibition Convention,
and to attend to all matters

Dr. J. A. Stafford will fill his
pulpit at the Methodist church,

Prof. R. E. Roberts of Mt.
Pleasant was elected superintend-
ent of Gilmer Public schools at
the bord meeting last Saturday.
W. E. Oliver was elected trustee
in place of W. R. Stephens, re-
signed.
Prof. J. J. Flemings was re-
elected principal of the Gilmer
colored scho. yesterday and
Ella Byas was elected assistant.
Mrs. S. V. Whitehurst was
elected teacher of Dickson’s
Orphan Home school.

mer held a special call meeting
Tuesday eve. May 24th, particu-
larly to discuss the kindergarten
subject which we must organize
before the next schoel term,

ber take a hand in this good
work, and also bring in new

school building last Friday
night.
