Messenger._____________________
That able paper the Hempstead
Messenger denies the “soft impeach-
ment” that Coke is its first choice
for the Senate. The Messenger un-
derstands the wishes of Texas and
favors Judge Ireland for that posi-
tion. The truth is that the demand
for Ireland has swept over the
State like a prairie fire, and the
Legislature will respond to the wishes
of its constitutency.
The next Legislature will be me-
moralized to erect a new county from
portions of Fayette, Colorado, La-
vaca, Gonzales and Brastrop, with
Flatonia for county site. The Fay-

tion is a matter of incalculable im-
portance to the people interested.

the following resolutions at its meet-

Whereas, a bill to be entitled “an
Act to enable the city of Galveston to
construct a seawall and breakwater,
to levy a tax and issue bonds there-
for, and to grant State aid to' the
same by the donation of lands,” has

at the next session of the Legisla-

said bill to be published as required
by law, and that our Senator and
Representatives in the Legislature be
and hereby are requested to use their
best efforts to secure the passage of
the act. That said committee be au-

specifications for said breakwater,
and that the sum of two hundred and

The Best April Fool.—A lead

workmen to the Boss Smith at the

it in the furnace long enough to heat
the said “Boss” felt for it with his

was heavily freighted with words
which might have come from the
hottest corner of that furnace, for
at leaf two minutes.—Hearne Enter-
