It was ’Monkey-faced" Madden that
started the eleventh inning rally that
took the game from Austin. He man-
aged to get’his anatomy close enough
to a pitched ball for it to breeze his
' shirt sleeves, and went down to first.
! He /Mould have perished there, but Ke
! didn't. Frierson was out on a fly
to McCuller, and Maag went out the
same route, only he tossed to Brain-
ard.
The fans could almost see a victory
for Austin, or twelve innings, when
Williams stepped to the plate to do
the .hero act with two- down, and he
would have failed beautifully but
Brainard couldn't get his mitts on the
ball, and he was safe at first with
Madden anchored on second. Gloom
began to hover around the grandstand,
and it wao visible when Massey
walked, filling the sacks.
And Hopkins, the next sticker up,
wasn't due for a hit. and he drove a
(rounder to Brainard, which rolled
easy and just kept rolling right be-
tween his legs to the outfield, allow-
ing Madden and Williams to tally with
the whining runs..

In the absence of Umpire McKee;
who never showed up at the park the
game was umpired by Roche and
I Moore, two players. Their work was
ivery otisfactory, save to Hopkins.
In the eleventh inning, when he walked
• away from the plate because Roche
called two strikes on him. Both balls
were over, but the second one might
have been a little high. As a whole,
the players didn't miss the stubby ar-
bitrator. but the fans would have en-
. joyed the game much more with an
official umipire. McKee never even
sent notice giving a reason why he

batsmen, but timely hitting by the
locals and errors of the Oilers resulted
in a 6 to 0 ecore in favor of Waco.
Ogle, for Waco, was steady in pinches,
and was seldom in any danger. The
locals did great fielding.
