Rapidly becoming a band to be reckoned with. The Models
have burst onto the Houston music scene; with tunes
like "She's Got the Beat", "Can't Get Up" and "Don't
Take Me" The Models have developed a unique brand of
Rock 'n Roll. Personable, attractive and talented, The
Models (Johnny Indovina, Steve Fuxan, Charles Bouis and
Mike Ciravolo) are scheduled for several upcoming gigs
in the Houston area in February, the first being at The
Rocksy on Sunday, February 6, and Monday, February 7.
See ya there! amnia
On the evening of Saturday, January 22nd at approxi-
mately 11pm, as I headed south on West Loop South and
took the interchange to Highway 59 South, I was witness
to a troubling situation. As I approached the ramp, I
was passed by three patrol cars in succession. 1 1
naturally wondered what was going on when it became all
too obvious. The traffic slowed almost to a stop.
There were at least a dozen police cars, two officers
setting out flares, a helicopter, and even a Channel 13
Eyewitness News van. I had not come up on the accident
yet, but somehow I knew a police vehicle must have been
involved. My suspicions were soon confirmed. A man
was lying face down on the freeway and about 100 yards
away was an unmarked patrol car with a motorcycle
twisted beneath it. I do not know the cause or the
outcome of this incident, for although at least one
news station was present, I could find nothing on any
of the three major TV stations or in either of the two
major newspapers. This appeared to me to be a news-
worthy event, but that is not my main reason for being
disturbed.

I can understand why, when a call goes out for an
officer in distress, that call becomes a priority. I
understand and agree with that practice. What I don't
understand is, in a city whose police force is so
drastically understaffed, in a city where it takes two
and a half hours or more to get response on an auto-
mobile accident with injuries and immobile cars, where
did they come from and how did they get there so
quickly? It could not have been-more than five minutes
after the accident before I passed it, because the
traffic had only just begun to back up in spite of the
fact that the situation took up three of the four
freeway lanes. Also, when it became obvious that the
situation was under control, why, as I took the exit
ramp, did I still see more units arriving even then?
