James Brown is without doubt one
of the most influential artists
(black or white) in modern music. He
is a master of the high energy per—
formance. Brown’s invention of the
performance so into it that he has
to be pu 11 ed un w i11i ngly f rom the
stage, was an act of genius.
His recent records have, received
varied receptions from critics and
audiences, but his performances al-
ways garner cheers. So don’t miss
this l egend, hismoves or his all-
star lineup at Rockefeller’s next
week.

Rockefeller's, April 7
These guys have been around for
almost 30 years. You know the hits:
"Baby I Need Your Loving," "I Can’t
Help Myself," and "It's the Same Old
Song," among others.
Still, with lead singer Levi
Stubbs, they are a classic vocal
group. They have not gone funk or
rock over the years. They are not
the innovators, but are consistent
art i sts.
